hi all
this is my first message, if i manage to find out how i post one, ( i dont really get on with computers). just bought a 650s 99reg done about 22,000 miles. the guy i bought it off said it came with a de restrictor cert but he wasnt sure if it was. it gets to about 100mph but thats about it, does anybody know if this sounds like it is restricted or just the age of the bike. sorry for the stupid question but dont know much about bike mechanics and just passed about 3 months ago regards |

if it only does 100mph then i would say it is restricted, others will be along to tell you how to check if it is and what type of restriction.

cheers Jamie.
Thought it might be, spoke to a bloke the other day at a local garage who said it will be about sixty pound to remove if it has one. will there be much difference in the overall performance. the bike has a beowulf exhaust added too, so not sure if this would make a difference aslo. cheers |

If it's the FI international restriction on the curvy it'll simply be two washers sitting under the carbs. What does it say on the restriction certificate? If it is FI int. then just do it yourself.. 1) Lift and prop up tank 2) Remove the airbox from the carbs (just give it a tug) Shouldn't need to remove all the hoses attached to the airbox, but if you do, make sure you note which ones go where. 3) Undo the jubilee clips holding the carbs onto the inlet (screw pictured below) ![]() 4) Lift up carbs and look if there are washers fitted (pic below). If they're in there just take 'em out and job's a goodun. ![]() Put everything back as it was, making sure the carbs are properly sitting, jubilee clips done up tight and seal between airbox and carbs is tight (I find removing the air filter (four screws on top) helps with this as you can see the top of the seal) Then pop a post up on here in case anyone's looking for some for their bike. I assume you're not supposed to be restricted, as obviously removing them when you shouldn't will land you in a big pile of the proverbial ![]() However if the restriction is the Suzuki one it'll be carb sliders. I don't have experience with this type so I'll let someone else talk you through that. PM Yorkie_Chris if you want help with that. Yes taking the restrictors out will make a massive difference. Have a look for Wideboy's thread about his "new bike", which in fact is just his SV now he's de-restricted it. Hope that helps. Josh |

My SV has the carb sliders to restrict it, massive paddles that sit in the bowels of the carbs. As a result the bike only revs to 7,000 rpm and won't do 100mph. 70 mph is all that she will give in 6th, @ 6,500rpm. To get them out is a carb strip down 2hr job and instructions for it are on this forum in the 'how to' section - i've got 6mths left before i can take them out.......cant wait. I had the bike on a dyno @ christmas and it was making 30bhp........overtaking slower moving traffic is hard work....how much I long for 70bhp!!
I wonder what restrictors you have that'll let your bike do 100mph? My bike is a '99 SV too and pretty much the same mileage. |
