have you tried tapping all the keys individually? sounds dumb I know but my lappy does the same thing if I leave it for a while. It goes into like an idle mode i think its my enter key that brings it out of it.

Quiff, what laptop is it? (Manufacturer & model).

Chances are it's hibernating (green/orange combination is hibernation on Toshiba's IIRC). But without knowing what laptop it is, it's a little tricky to tell you how to wake it up again.

If it is hibernating, it's pretty safe to press & hold power for 5 secs, this will turn it off completely (all lights except the AC will go off). Then just hit power again to turn it on.

turn it upside down and see if there is a tiny reset hole underneath that you can stick a tooth pick or opened out paperclip into, this happen'd on my Compaq...

Another suggestion: unplug it from the mains, take the battery out, wait for about 30secs, then put it all back and try again.
