Default All this talk of new jobs

You know, Ed and G, I was getting all jealous.

So, Friday afternoon on the off chance I called a few places on the JobCentrePlus website. Got an interview booked in for 10.30 this morning.

Sounds like I did all the right things, cos I got the job

Happy as Larry I am, really buzzing

New job is a marketing door to door job at the moment on behalf of Scottish Power who are apparently the cheapest in Northampton at the moment (yeah right, they all say that). Wages are so much better and within a year I could be fully trained as a manager and have my own branch anywhere in the country as long as there is a unit Targets are to get 2 people to sign a day, some days you will hit them, some days you won't.

But, main thing is getting out of this place, I started a thread a while ago stating I really wanted to leave, but needs must and bills have to be paid.

Anyway, best do some notice typing (*scratches head* where's that thread of Maria's...).

A very happy Plowface

xxx

Thanks guys, the door to door thing I am fairly confident about, I am a very talkative, outgoing, face-to-face confident person. Liaising with customers I do well too so fairly happy, it's a new career with new demands that I am fairly happy about

We shall see how well things go

Plowsie, you just have to choose your time right. I dont mind cold callers at the door (unless they're selling religion) because we do enough of it ourselves, the rules say I can't cold call private clients but I can cold call business ones. I get used to being sent away with a flea in my ear, it's water of a duck's back now, but we have won a lot of work this way. My advice is not to make things too complex, it can be difficult to take in all the comparative costs structures and being asked to sign up there and then.

Thanks Ed.

As well as the door to door work. There are bigger better opportunities, business to business sales and more so, Roadshow etc, so I could be one of them planks who stands in the middle of town asking people if they pay the bills and if they would like to save money...

I am slightly excited, but also apprehensive about it. It's a dive more than a step to change careers as I more than well know, the risk that I may not be liked/effective. I just hope I do well and can make something of it

I did that job for British Gas a few (10) years ago.

I don't want to pi$$ on your bonfire but It was bloody hard work and the amount of money they said you could earn was nowhere near what most people did. I was told the top earners were on 1-2 grand a week and while one or 2 may have been the vast majority were struggling to earn 300 - 400

It takes a special kind of person to do well at door to door sales, I found it soul destroying being told to eff of by the majority of people I called on, I was also threatned with violence most days.

They also messed me about when claiming for petrol expenses, in the end I was doing about 60 miles drving a day and if I made no sales then it would end up costing me money.

However if you are dedicated and don't mind putting up with the crap there is money to be made. Just make sure you sort out how much you can claim for petrol and double check all the expense claims you make.

Good luck.
