Default Brake noise.

As many of you know by this thread http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.php?t=133233 that last week I dropped the SV. BTW thanks to everyone who came thru for me

After getting a new front brake lever fitted - thankfully the only damage - I am beginning to wonder about the brake. It works OK and there does not look to be any damage but before the incident when I pulled it on I could hear a click as the piston on the lever connected and a click as it was released.

Now I can only hear the click as it goes on and nothing as the brake lever is released.

What does anybody elses sound / feel like ? There is no leakage or visible damage - am I just being paranoid

the clicks your brake light switch I think, check your brake light's functioning okay. Other that that aslong as you're being stopped ok I'd guess it's just healthy paranoia.

yeah there's a slightly click at about 10=20% of lever travel. Try turning your ignition on and pulling the lever in until you hear the click, watch for your brake light coming on - it will be simultaneous

Right then - I followed the advice from Dave20046 and Paul the 6th and tested the brake. The brake light functions OK but it looks like part of the time the switch is now sticking on. Not all the time and if you knock the lever forward slightly it goes off but it is more than enough to be annoying.

Does anyone know
(a) if this is an MOT fail
(b) Can the switch unit be replaced easily (and cheaply)

Thanks

grrrrrrrrrrr damn chavs this just goes on and on

I'm afraid that's where my mechanical knowledge stops matey, it was more common sense than anything but I'd be quite confident it would be an mot failure as it could be "misleading to other road users and therefore potentially dangerous" or something along those lines

could be worth posting a new thread with a more descriptive title like "Brake light switch sticking on with front brake" or something - you'll get the answer you need

Sounds like supervox's front brake lever, ask him. Is ita genuine part or pattern?
