I've been offered a 1999 GSXR 600 with only 6K on the clock, for what seems a very reaonsble price.
Just wondering if anyone has had one of these and what their opinons of them are. And how would it compare to my 1999 SV650. Cheers |

Nice bikes, not so torquey as the new ones, but pretty decent. The one I tried was carby, apparently later ones a bit quicker. Dunno how well the electronics take weather though, I'm not an EFI fan, I'd prefer the carby 750.
Compared to SV, it handles, it stops, it goes. Careful of warped discs, knackered consumables etc. How much is it?

Cheers for that. Was the 1999 not carbs then? I thought they were and went to injection in late 2000/01.
It's a bargain put it that way. A friend of a friend bought it as a toy and has hardly used it. Been in the garage and used VERY occasionaly on dry days for the last 2 or 3 years. Has only 6000 genuine miles. I'm verrrrry tempted. |

Oh hang on, I think the 600 might have stayed carby throughout SRAD years.
750 went to EFI in 98... doh!

But it is fun when they come up on the cam, like a 4 stroke 2 stroke. Depends what you want.

Not a case of what I want, I wasn't even looking for a new bike to be honest, but this has come up, with very low miles and a very good price, and it seems too good to miss. Just wondered what peoples thoughts on them in general were, and whether there were any pitfalls with them, and how they'd compare to the SV.
If I were buying new or was specifically looking for a Gixer I would probably go for a 750, but like I say this just looks too good to pass up on ![]() |

They dont...
It'll steer, stop, soak up the bumps better and accelerate faster than your SV will. You'll need to ride it differently as it''ll thrive on rev's, dont worry about less engine braking as the front brakes will more than make up for that. If you want to read more, have a look at www.gixerjunkies.com and ask on there, good bunch of guys as they know their stuff to. If its as good as you say it is, I'd be inclined to buy it if you dont like it you shoudl be able to shift it on again quite easily.

Cheers mate. My thoughts exactly on the sell on thing. One question, is the 600 going to be happy enough on a commute. Mostly in 30's so doesn't get chance to get the revs up really, a bit of filtering and a lot of lights. The SV is great for this with the low down torque, this is my only real concern with the gixer as I use my bike for everything, work and play. |

I think the SV would have the edge as an all rounder, but that's just me, my gimpy back makes all the rice rockets uncomfortable ![]()
