Default V strom TRE & FI issue

Morning ladies and gents. As some of you know I'm getting a Vstrom at some point next week. I've done my usual ton of internet research and unearthed mainly good things about the bike. However one thing that is bugging me is the engine restrictions. All of the websites say using a TRE is the way forward to get full power in the top 2 gears (apparently they have 10hp less, this has been confirmed on at least three sites) and to remove the mid gear restriction used in the drive by tests. However as its an FI suzuki can I not just get the mechanic I use to get his yoshi box and retune the fuelmaps that way?

Then I get to keep the overdrive light on the dash (I like such pointless things).

*I know that TRE's a frowned upon almost unanimously on this site but apparently the strom is fairly heavily restricted in the top two gears to limit top speed*

I can assure you totally the Vstrom is not at all restricted on top speed or power in any shape or form other than a tiny retard in ignition for noise emmisions at 4k which i beg anyone to notice its that small.

A Yoshi box can only alter fueling by a limited amount but most bikes do benefit from this on a dyno after run in to optimise the fueling.

Ive been involved in tuning various bikes from SV650's right through to BSB engines and spent time on a couple of Vstroms for customers that have fitted systems etc. These are really enjoyable little bikes so just buy and enjoy.

Apparently the 30bhp was removed via smaller inlet valves etc, this gives lots of mid range though. The V-Strom forums though are adamant the bike is restricted in 5th and 6th to reduce the top end to 125mph. Now i'm not saying i would go that fast or faster on a strom but i need to know that I can should i want to!!

The 1000 is the same as the 650. It runs a different cam profile I understand to the SV1000 which the motor is shared with but I can assure you they arent restricted at all for speed, no current Suzuki motorcycle is.

It will show you how reliable the sellers of the TRE are. Some state Suzuki have restricted their bikes especially the GSXR1000 and Hayabusa to calm them down..now thats laugh of the century!. They also state that the Busa when fitted with a TRE is no longer speed restricted, they dont have a restriction!. The clocks stop but the bike keeps going.

Trust me..fit a TRE and you loose all the individual gear maps, ignition maps etc as a starter for no point whatsoever.

I could sell these all day long and easily cream £50 profit from people but choose not to because im a tuner with a good reputation that works by only doing things that work and being honest with the customer.

Ok mate, thanks very much for your honest opinion there. I'll just get the injection and fuelling setup properly then and it should be nice and smooth.

Will TL cams fit one, or are the valve springs not strong enough for more lift?

Not sure mate. Wasn't one of the questions I asked when buying it!!

I'll investigate it, but not sure if I need 130break horse trail bike with a powerband.
