Having the day off, I thought I'd make the most and head out on the bike. After a lie in, I left home around 11ish, and thought I'd head towards Hawes for lunch. After passing through Yarm and Richmond, I headed up to Leyburn and then onto Askrigg and then into Hawes. Weather was warm but did cool slightly as I arrived. The ride over there was set at a pace and I wasnt hanging about. There were a few bikes about, notably a lovely Ducati 848 which by the sounds of things was going to Scotland on hols with a 1150GS as its butler. Also got the chance to talk to a guy who was on a Street Triple. Turned out it was on loan for the day from York so got a chance to sit on it. Really light bike and I'll definitely be trying one. I'm not sure if theyre the right style of bike i'm after but I'll definitely be considering one for my next bike. I did think I'd go back to using clip ons but I much prefer the upright riding style as it just doesnt encourage you at every opportunity to think you're something you're not.
After a tasty BLT and Coffee, I headed back into the town and then turned left heading onto the moor towards Buttertubs pass. Anyone who has been up to Hawes may have come via Leyburn along the main road and I had trodden the path many times however the trip up to Buttertubs was one of only a handful times I've been up there. Watch for the sheep! At this point, the hoon was over and the ride turned into a bimble, an opportunity to take some shots and take in the views. At this point the weather was great and it was great fun just taking it easy and not having anything to get back for. ![]() I then headed up to Buttertubs and again thought it was worth a quick photo ![]() Over the top of the moor and back down and into Muker and Gunnerside, as I passed through Low Row, I found another road which led North so I climbed again onto the moor. ![]() Once I got to the top, I noticed that there was a very heavy raincloud just north of me so instead of continuing north, I turned East back towards Reeth as I hadnt brought the 1 piece oversuit to cover my leathers ![]() You could literally see the rain in front of me ![]() Due to the rain, there was some good lighting effects for photos. I was disappointed that I only had my phone to call upon ![]() I managed to stay dry as the rain cleared off to the North West. This was on a back road between Reeth and Richmond. Again, I'd never been up around here before ![]() ![]() I then literally followed the base of the raincloud until I got home. The roads were soaking but I think I managed to avoid it by 5 minutes every time! I got home to be informed that I'd missed a monumental thunderstorm. I had begun to wonder why the drains were overflowing! All in all a great day, took ages just stopping and taking it in but a very enjoyable afternoon.
