I was asked how much to fit a chain & sprocket kit to an SV, I answered it was easy enough to do it yourself.
"Oh you'll do it for me then" came the reply. "No, but I'll help and lend the tools" The day came (last Friday), I think the roll of "helper" was expected for a while, but it soon became clear, they were doing it and not me. With patients and a clear order of business they set about the task, following my instructions; ordered progress was made with out any problems (a few tool handling tips thrown in here and there) along the way, each step was explained and then done, the end result being as good as I could have done myself, and an enjoyable couple of hours were spend. I believe it was the first time this person had done anything like that and I was impressed with how they listened and worked, so congratulations on a job well done. Cheers Mark.

Nice one.
As a complete technical idiot I think it is great to have help when needed and also for the knowledgeable person to supervise. The only way to learn is to do it yourself but to have help there to guide you in the right direction is great.

Most I find can actually do it themselves quite well, having someone they trust to look over their shoulder merely gives them the confidence to try, also knowing they'll be stopped if it's going wrong helps to.
And of course the satisfaction of having done it yourself, is always good to see. Cheers Mark.
