I keep my bike at a friends a little way from my house and it feels like I never really get the time to go for a good ride. At the moment I'm going out no more than 3 times a month and even less the last month. I would like to use the bike every day regardless of weather but dont have anywhere to store it other than chained up at the back of the house, which my insurance company aren't a fan of.
Its for these reasons that the bike is for sale but I dont really want it to go. Does anyone else ride their bike as little as me? It would help me justify keeping it if I'm not the only one with an expensive garage ornament.

As much as possible. Commuting fun etc. Not everyday but more than not. Do about 15K miles a year at the moment.

I use my bike everytime I go to work on average 5 times a week. The only time I don't is when there is lots of snow on the ground.

![]() The bike isn't used for commuting...............a 10 mile dual carridgeway ride to work is pointless and boring on a bike.................but it's used every weekend, and not just for a 50 mile bimble. We've only missed two weekends since we got the bike a year ago, when we were snowed in. In fact, with over 15,000 miles clocked up in that year I bet our 'ornamant' has done more miles than some which are used every day. So keep it! ![]()

When i haven't spent too much £££ drinking then as much as possible and if i could afford it every day. As it stands though, this brilliant weather has come when i have spent all my money.
Sucks for me right now. |

I ride mine about the same. I kept mine at my mums but built a shed in the back garden to keep it in. Still don't get out much on her.
I have a bank loan for her and have thought many times about selling her. But the money will not go to pay the loan of and be wasted (would incur a penalty to pay off early). The bike isnt worth too much and she will not depreciate in value too much if she sits there for a few years and used minimally. So i opted to keep her to put a smile on my face when I need it. If I sold her I would not get the money again to buy another so best to have her there then not at all.

I keep my bike at my brother's about 30 miles away in his garage and insured from his address. I only use the bike at the weekends but have found recently that my journey to him is taking about an hour, an hour to get the bike out (always got to remove stuff from behind, around and on it) and exchange pleasantries.
I dont usually leave his house until gone noon, so go out with nowhere in mind for couple of hours and then make my way back.....same thing, an hour to put back whist chatting to an ever increasing 'eager-to-ride' brother and another hour drive home. The bike doesnt owe me anything on a 57 plate, its not going anywhere (clearly) and wont sell it until I am ready for a gixxer! I must see what can be done at my house for access to the rear garden! Why am I not out today? After taking about half an hour to travel a mile, I turned round and came home and decided to watch the British Superbike... Last edited by Nostrils; 05-07-09 at 03:49 PM. |

My bike is a workhorse. It gets me to work and back 4-6 days a week (sometimes I have to take the car, but parking the car at work is not an option on 3 days of the week).
I don't really (read: almost never) leisure ride, partly due to time constraints and partly due to leisure riding never really appealing as a way to use up my free time). However, I *do* really enjoy my commuting on my bike. Even though it's mainly a 20 min plod along the north circular then down the A1 (hardly exciting) it still puts a smile on my face ![]() Jo |

just fun (well bloody mindedness really) mileage these days, restricted by the knee playing up every other or couple of days(so can't ride), 24,000 last year and a little over 15,000 this year so far, but nowhere near what I used to manage (between 50-70k, but was using it for both commuting and whilst at work then).
I always enjoy going out on the bike, or I just wouldn't go ![]() Cheers Mark
