Hello people. My forks have started showing sings of corrosion and i was wondering if anyone else had their forks rechromed. if so what was the price? is it worth it?

Thanks

Default Re: Fork Rechroming

About 16yrs ago I had a set rechromed for a Z650. Company was A.M. Phillpot if I remember correctly. They were one of a couple of companies that advertised in MCN at the time. Cost was about £110. Finish is dull not shiney because the legs are ground to size after a thick coating of chrome is applied. Very tough finish and definately stronger and better than standard. Bike forks are just a sideline to companys that do this work, their main business is hydraulic rams for JCB's etc.
As already mentioned though replacements are available now relatively cheaply (they weren't 16yrs ago) so it's your choice as to whats the most covenient/cheapest solution. New legs might be slightly more expensive but if you get your existing ones rechromed then your bike will be in bits for at least a week.
hope this helps
cheers
