Spose I'd better add a proper reply too...
This is what I was told over on PH: Quote:
I followed the advice and it certainly gave the old trumpet a lovely finish

1) Ride to local Hand Car Wash
2) Ask Eastern European Bloke if they do bikes 3) Ask Eastern European Bloke if they can be a bit careful with the pressure washer 4) Stand and watch someone else do the work 5) Give Eastern European Bloke £5 6) Ride off home.

I give it a gentle spray with hosepipe and leave to soak for a minute - this softens/loosens any dried on dirt & dust, then go over it with a sponge and bucket of water with car shampoo in it. If you don't spray the bike before hand, when you apply the sponge it just drags all that dirt and crap across your paint work...
Clean all the fairings and plastics first, then give the engine casings and bits a gentle going over. When you're done, spray the bike gently to wash off all the suds... I like to dry with a leather chamois so that you don't get dried on dribbles and runs (miss paul the 6th hates it when I leave dribbles on the bike)

well, I only do the chain and wheels every 6-8 weeks or so but I'd do them first and then wash the bike to get rid of any flingy bits which may have spotted off the wheels or chain
![]() I don't bother with polish too much as I'm always worried about spoiling my plastics by using the wrong polish, bu there are dedicated plastic polishes and stuff out there
