Default Powdercoating

Getting my subframe powdercoated. Never had this process done on anything but wheels.

Any tips?

Does it get dipped before it gets coated? So its not worth masking stuff off?

Easy enough to tap out the holes after paint?

Cheers.

It'll be sand blasted before it gets coated, the place I use are quite good as they cover/fill up any threaded holes before they coat it. Saves a lot of hassle having to tap out the holes afterwards.

+1 make sure they know to mask off any threaded parts. I foolishly bolted one of my passenger footrest hangers on before properly cleaning the thread. It got stuck half way and I couldn't undo it.

Suffice to say I could not undo the bolt and ended up cutting the head off it to get the hanger off. Even after that I could not undo the stub and trashed the hanger

take item to powdercoater then tell him what colour you want, he does the rest. the coater i use cleans bolt holes after job and is really cheep £35 for a wheel.

Holes are not meant to be tapped out after Powdercoating as it causes a weak point in the coating and allows corrosion to get underneath , holes are best being masked off first before coating , any place will do this for you before they sandblast and dip it to degrease .............. but I would mention that you want any threaded holes or holes that accept parts/components to be masked off prior to coating .

Use caution, the holes for the actual mounting bolts may be fine pitch. Curvy ones are.

Basically, take it to someone who knows how to do bike bits, like ESP in Glasgow. I'd have said BBS in Edinburgh but I'm not sure now, AllanM who did the bike stuff there passed away last year and I've heard a couple of bad things since then with the other guy. Hendersons in Edinburgh are good too, very oldschool. Or, by post, Triple S or Aerocoat probably.

Its in ESP. £35.

Been in business along time so expect a decent result next friday.

Passed stunt nutter Kevin Carmicheal on the way in. Still in one piece and no stookies (like that has stopped him before!) The shop sponsor him apparently.

Cheers for all the advice folk.
