Question Light steering

Hey guys, quick hello as this is my first post on the forum, although its been a valuable source of info for me in finally getting my bike, many thanks.

I've only had my SV650 for a few months now but must admit its changed me for the better!

I have however noticed in the last week that the steering seems to have become very light and that very small movements of the bars seem to be exaggerated at slow speed. My bike is an pointy sk6 with 1400 miles on it so wear and tear is limited. Tyre pressure doesn't seem to be an issue and there are no obvious leaks at the front end (although I am no expert!)

Has anyone got any ideas on what it could be or can you just put my mind at rest and tell me that I'm probably going mad, it would be appreciated,

Thanks guys

Tyre pressure of the front wheel is just above 30 psi, handbook says 32 I believe. Its on the low side anyway which would make it feel heavier wouldn't it?

Not sure, it feels dramatically different though, I've put about 700 miles on it in the time I've owned it.

Are there any key checks that I can do, apart from the usual? otherwise I'll have to take it to have it checked out as its a real confidence denter at the moment when cornering.

Faired or naked ??

I have a naked and feel that the front is noticably lighter than the faired that I had.

Are you sure that it has got worse or maybe because it was new you were still coming to terms with it and now you have used it a while it feels light ??

Set your pressures to 33 front, 36 rear and ride again. Even a few psi can make a difference.

Its faired, will give the tyres a blast and see if that corrects it.

It may possibly be because I've not been riding it that long, but the sudden change just doesn't make sense to me.

I've spoken to the dealer I bought it from who said he'd have a quick ride to confirm that I'm going mad and I'll let you know the outcome.

Thanks for the advice guys will let you know if the PSI corrects the difference in the interim otherwise i will just have to take it for a few more long trips to get used to it if its an experience issue which won't be a shame at all!

At slow speed, I think head bearings. This causes bike to feel like it is falling into a low speed turn.

Check for free play, and nip the bearings up if needed.

whats the profile like on your front tyre..?
if its round and no flat spots then ok... no worries but
if it squared off ? get a new tyre.
