Got my MOT next weekend and am a bit nervous as to whether it will pass or not with the Yoshimura end can. It's not hellishly loud but the guy in the shop, Lambas in Carshalton, warned me about aftermarket cans having to be as quiet as the original or they'll fail.
So I'm thinking of putting the original back on. It's never been on there while I've owned the bike as the Yoshi was fitted when I got it. I've read on here that the original had to be cut to replace it, so the question is, what do I need to refit it and is it an easy job. Cheers |

I know the guys in Lambas, they're a decent bunch, the fact of the matter is that the inspectors are around a lot more now and if they get caught passing a dodgy bike they are in serious trouble so they've got to cover themselves.
If your yoshi is just a can and link pipe, and you've got the original you should just have to undo the clamp down by the rider's footpeg, and the can hanger bracket attached to the pillion peg and bolt the standard pipe on in it's place, hold it up and it should be obvious if it'll fit before you start. If the yoshi's got any sort of baffle you can stick in it it'll be fine though.

Most exhaust manufacturers sell a 'sleeve' that covers the join/cut when refitting the original. I cheated and found a metal tube that was 54mm across and I just cut it down to bout 4 inches put the can back on and it flew through the MOT. The sleeves shouldnt be too expensive though.

The sleeve as mentioned above...
![]() Some MOT stations will pass a bike with a race can fitted, might be worth speaking to other bikers in your area about there experiences with MOT's as to who will pass it and who will not. Saves you having to put the OEM can back on and it won't cost you anymore money who you go to for the MOT. |

I cannot, for the life of me, understand why people always fret about their exhaust come MOT time. As long as your exhaust is ROAD LEGAL and has the baffle in place - you have nothing to worry about.

As I said before its worth asking about to see if they will pass it with a race can on. Only one vaguely near me will, but for convenience I use the one down the road and slip a modified road legal can on the end of the M4 system. |

Urrr... I think you'll find that Jay1 did not state whether it was a RACE CAN, or NOT FOR ROAD USE!!
Yoshi's do for ROAD and RACE. If Jay1 has a ROAD LEGAL can, then simply put the baffle back in. Job Done. |

I'm pretty sure it is road legal. It came with the bike and in the box of bits the guy gave me there was no extra bits for the exhaust. So I'm assuming that the baffle is still in there, but I'm not particularly clued up on this sort of thing (I know I need to learn) so no idea how to check if the baffle is in it or not. Or even if it has a removeable baffle.

Because it came with the bike, doesn't mean it's a road legal one (not being cruel).
Check the whole of your exhaust for a BSAU marking (usually found around the rim - near the back end of the exhaust). It will be imprinted BSAU with some other regulation numbers. If it has this then it's a ROAD LEGAL exhaust. If your exhaust says NOT FOR ROAD USE or NOT ROAD LEGAL, then it's a race pipe. Now, looking at your exhaust from the back (standing behind the bike) look into the end outlet. The baffle looks like a cone within the end outlet pipe (sort of like two circles). If there is one then the baffle is in there, but if you can see straight through then there's no baffle (it's a bit hard to describe). If you don't have the baffle, Egay sell them for about £12, or just check out the Yoshi site for one. Hope this helps. Chin |

or a 'E' mark instead of the 'BS' mark. Having neither of these means the can is not road legal.
Yoshimura only make a Round road legal can for the Pointy SV, if its Oval or Tri-Oval then it is a race can (unless you have a can from another bike fitted). Again, check around to see if there is a MOT station near you that will pass it even with a race can!!! |
