Just taken my bike to get dynoed so i have got the poof for my insurance in the event of a claim .
i have a SV650N 05 with ECU restiction. And a Scorpion Extreme Stubby Exhaust end can . I had the baffle out when it was dynoed. it came in at 35.19 BHP So im driving around with void insurance, in theory i might as well at put my full power ECU back in !! Do you think it would make a diffrence if i put my baffle back in ? i asked the guy could he make it 33 and he give it a good few runs but the best he could get was 33.99 i have atached the readings . so what can i do now. would the insurance take into consideration that the bike is acutally resticted or would they turn round and say your bike is 35 not 33 for Duck Off. ?

Should have done it baffled. What make is the ECU? You should have told him to strap it down harder or something to make it read under 33

I reakon that'll be fine, you could get it dynoed on a different machine and it could have 30bhp showing, they're not perfectly accurate. It still gives a proof of restriction, i never had to give proof of my restriction but i guess not all insurers are the same!!!!

It won't be fine, he's supposed to be restricted to 33bhp, that certificate shows otherwise (insurance companies don't think like we do), if it was me I'd leave it and worry about it when/if the situation arrises.

It will be fine, but showing that printout won't do you a lot of good. Why didn't he just fudge it by changing the correction factor or something?

why bother with the dyno. dont you have a cert explaining that you have a restricted ECU in your bike. have you told your insurance company about your exhaust? if you have then your insurance is valid.

In theory there's no need for certificates of any kind, it's only when there's a claim such things come in handy. The dyno certificate hindle's just had done would incriminate him so best binning it/safekeeping it. I'm guessing the ecu was second hand or something so didn't come with a certificate. Something you could do is take it to a bike shop, swap ECU's hand them the restricted ECU ask them to fit it and give you a recipt then part with a fiver. I would have thought a receipt from a mechanic saying they'd fitted a restrictor kit would be enough.

I wouldn't worry any way, you don't need a certificate to prove restrction anyway, I have checked this several times from different sources.
Also a different machine will be used than the one you used anways. The bike is limted in power anyway. Besides when I got my bike dynoed, the guy said depending on what dyno you used it it will give slightly differntly reading anyway. From my understanding you have to use the same dyno for counity any way. I'm sure that the more expericed guys can expain it. |
