Default Bullaces!

Yesterday I was given the information on where a load of ripe bullaces could be found, quite near to me. I went bombing down there this morning and there they were - ripe blushed yellow Essex bullaces and as yet not quite ripe purple ones. I gorged on them and filled two carrier bags with my scrumpings.
Now this afternoon I've got a litre of gin and a litre of brandy starting the long soak to the golden bullace liquer. My pan is bubbling nicely with Essex bullace and ginger chutney and I'm about to start the crushing for the first stage of bullace wine. The purple ones will sit in a basket in the sun for a couple of weeks til they ripen fully, then they too will sacrifice themselves to the betterment of spirits.
It's too early for the sloes, but I have noticed ripe blackberries already. I know a place for wild garlic, which I shall get to next week but I'm still searching for a good source of horseraddish

Anybody else into foraging for food

Dizzy - I don't make the gin. I leave that to the chemists (Where's A*hero when you need him)
But I use the Tesco value stuff which is really cheap because by the time the fruit has done it's work it's like an amber nectar

If the apocolypse ever comes...then unless tesco's survives I'm one of the ones that will be thoroughly boogered as I haven't a clue!

It's waay too early for Sloes, but it's looking like a good year for them. Just need a bit more sunshine to ripen 'em off. Then a spot of frost to soften them.

If the bullaces are ready, it's time to look out for damsons because they'll be along soon. Damson gin is delicious and so is damson jam though it's a bit of a faff getting all the stones out.

Keith.
