Default Bridgestone 016 anyone?

Does anyone have any experience with there tires? Grip, wet weather, etc...

I am looking to a new set for my 03 650 and the price is right on the BT-016. Sport Rider did a tire comparo a few months back and liked these, although they didn't rate as high as the PP 2CT.

I know almost anything will be an improvement over the OEM Dunlops, so grip should be no problem. I am not too worried about mileage, but do want a tire that does well in the rain.

I've got these on my CBR600RR, although I have do virtually no wet miles (damp is the most I've had :P)

Nice tyres though, stood up well to my hamfisted abuse on track, and seem good on the road. I'll probably stick with them for a while.

Had them on the kwak and thought they were great, but I don't have a lot to compare to (BT014s and PR2s). Have since swapped them for Michelin PR2s as I now mostly commute. Saying that - I kept the front (120/65) as it still has a few thousand miles left on it - let me know if you want it.

Appreciate the input. Now if I can just find someone with some rain time with them.

Thanks for the input and offer for the tire, but I will have to pass. Being in Germany, shipping would make it less than ideal.

IMHO then dont buy a out and out Sports Tyre. Go for something from the Sport Touring Range.

i.e. Michellin Pilot Road, Metzler Z6, Pirelli Diablo Strada, Bridgestone BT021, Avon Storm

I know the 016 is supposed to be much better than its predcessor the 014, but I had a terrible time with 014's in the rain.

Advantage with the Sport Touring tyres is their operating temperature spans a greater range so they work better when its cold and wet than a out and out sports tyre will, also their dry grip wont be far off that of an out and out sports tyre either and they'll last twice as long.

If you want to go more Sporty Michellin Pilot Power 2CT or if you can get them still Pirelli Diablo Corsa III, but I think these have been replaced by the Diablo Rosso now, but I'm not 100% sure... both were far superior wet grip and milleage wise than the Bridgestone 014 I had. Not tried the 014, but I am very wary now of fitting Bridgestones to any of my bikes after having such a horrid time on the 014...

I hear what you are saying. The thing is, I am not too concerned with mileage cause I have 4 bikes and probably won't get many miles on them before they should be replaced just from age, so I was looking at a sports tire for the extra grip.

That being said, a wide temp range is important to me, as I also ride some in the winter and for sure I want a tire that is decent in the rain.

I understand what you are saying about sport touring tires, but am confused why you would recommend the PP 2CT. Isn't it a sport tire comparable to the BS-016? Would the 2CTs have a wider temp range than the 16s, or would the PR 2CT be better.

To be honest, I was already looking at the PP 2CT, as it is highly recommended, but wanted to get feedback on the 16s cause they are at least $80 a set cheaper.

I have Corsa IIIs on my ZX10R and like them, but they are not available in the SV650 OEM sizes. I don't really want to vary from the OEM size, cause I don't want to mess with the geometry.

Thanks again for the input!

It is. Thing is the 014's never ever worked well when it was wet, they didnt work well in the rain either. I'm talking massive amounts of confidence sapping lack of feel coupled with a lack of grip. They were OK when I could ride hard to keep the heat in them, but anytimes else they were orrible. Also my GSXR destroyed the rear 014 in 1200 miles...

The PP 2CT, lasted twice as long, it gave better feel and feedback in the dry and more importantly from where you are coming from in the wet as well.

As I said I have no experience of the 016's so take what I read with a big pinch of salt.

Thanks much for taking the time. Your experience with the 14s gives me reason to hold off on buying 16s until I can get some feedback from someone running them and how they act in the rain and/or cool weather.

The 016 is a great tyre on a sports bike, I fitted a set to my GSXR and did a few Ring trips and a track day at Zandvoort, loads of grip, progressive when it does start to spin up (on track, hairpin type exits, more due to my ham fisted riding).

I'd definitely consider again for a mixture of fast road and track riding.
