Routine carburetor clean. Fine for 20miles, then hisitate....hesitate....pop...pop Runs Like she was cold or something. Then in the middle of last night was like somebody swapped my engine with a vespa engine. Maybe only because of lighter weight, but I don't see a vespa taking off THAT slow. Anything above 3000RPM was stuttering like I was 4 gears too high. Pop pop pop WooWWWoooWoo...what the!? Opened her up last night and things looked good from the airbox to carb top inlets and rear outlet. No leaks spotted but there WAS a leak when I first installed the carbs days and a few rides ago. By the way, the leak was fixed by resetting the new bowl seal, lubing the needle valve and adjusting the float height although I have no clue how to do that. I just bent the wire that the valve hangs from in the float bowl. One of these things fixed the leak. Not sure which.

Ohhhh....and....I messed up the air cutt off diaphram. It was warped near one "hole" that had "melted shut". I simply made "another" hole again. Then when I checked the other diaphram I noticed that there WAS NO HOLE there and since that one looked fine(not warped). I realized that I basically just made a hole where there should not be one. The bike seem to run frine for the first 20 miles though, d uring my testing. I did hard acceleration tests too.
will research the air cutt off valve does so I see if it makes sense with my problems.

![]() OK...I really think it's the air cut-off valve since the carbs were seated pretty good and my resaearch on this valve says something about popping! Also mentions mixture. Sounds about right. Curious it took so long to manifest though. Now to test!

![]() Front choke plunger seems damaged. Even though it's tightly screwed in, it can be pulled out some distance against the spring while still sOK....I'm about to give up. It's 2PM already. Don't think it's choke plunger. Zip tied it in place and no help. Played around with it while engine is running and it did not affect things unless I really pulled it far out. Then I noticed some slight smoke at high RPMs coming from left side a little behind my feet I think. Think I need a shop cause I want to ride today. Don't have anymore time to play around. |

Give us a bit more detail.
Does it tick over OK? Does it pull up to 3k? Maybe main jet has unscrewed itself.

That is why I posted the video. You can hear the bike start and rev passed 3000RPM and also I rode it around in 1st gear so you can see the power drop.
Yes, it feels fine up to 3000RPM. In fact I think there is no difference. All the trouble seems to be at higher RPMs. What do you think about broken choke plunger. The rubber sleave is seperated and even though I held it in during reving, it did nto help. Maybe it has to be air tight? |

Are you sure the needle's seated right into the slider on both carbs? If it's not it can jump out and bounce out of the jet on occasion and totally flood the mid circuit, I had that once... Also, check that both vacuum lines are on right (though to be honest it doesn't really seem that much like a bad vacuum, from the vid)
