Default Vibration like anti-lock brakes

I've just had my bike serviced and a couple of new tyres.
I was obviously taking it quite easy on the way home with the new tyres, but when I was almost home, a car driver in front of me braked very hard, so I had to brake harder than I'd have liked. When I did, I felt 4 not really vibrations, almost knocking, like you get with anti-lock brakes in the car.

The bike didn't slow as quickly as I was used to, tho this could be entirely down to me not using the brake as hard as I would have done if I didn't have new tyres, and I'd also been riding around on an almost brand-new Gladius whilst my bike was being serviced, so that may have had better brakes.

I've seen this thread http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.php?t=139189&highlight=brake+level+move but I think it's unlikely that my situation is the same.

Does anyone have any thoughts on it? Should I just let the tyres bed in a bit and see how things are then? Obviously I don't normally do emergency stops, so it may be entirely normal.

As a (slight) side issue, is it possible to adjust the rear brake bite point (if that makes sense) - I have to press the rear brake quite a long way down before I get much feel from it? The brake pads have plenty of life left in them, so it's not that they're just worn.

Many thanks

I presume we're talking about an SV here?!

I would check obvious things like making sure the spindles are done up properly, the calipers are mounted correctly etc etc etc.

Best not to take a chance, maybe something got left loose!!!!

Not possible to adjust brake "bite". Have the brakes been touched??
If they have, are they worse before your bike went for service??

If yes....take it back. You paid your money!!

The calipers' pistons move outwards everytime you use the brakes, so as the pads wear and/or disc does too, the pistons compensate for the wear by moving the pads closer together.

Is there not an adjustable link between the rear brake pedal and the master cylinder?

Yes, but that just repositions the angle of the pedal. Doesn't reduce the gap between the pad and disc by increasing the pressure on the M.cylinder.

Yes, sorry, K5.

I'll give them a call on Monday, but I wondered if there was a known explanation for such behavior and I didn't want to ask about a problem that was in my head (i.e. I was riding the bike differently because of the new tyres for example) - I have a lot of faith in the servicer. It's also a bit of a trek to the place where I get my bike serviced.
I'll take it out again tomorrow and see how I get on.

Thanks chaps

May be a bit of a trek, but safety is paramount.

hi, just saw this,
Ive had the same thing when Ive done emergency stops on my k5.
Its my first big bike so i have nothing to compare it to. I had put it down to some sort of connection between the sudden braking during acceleration and then pulling the clutch in - like engine braking gone wrong , it feels like its drive connected to me ( ie. i feel it through the engine/gearbox rather than the brakes. allthough i haven't tested it too many times as it only seems to happen under True emergency braking.
I;m pretty sure i can hear a knocking sound when it happens or maybe thats just the vibration shaking my head.
Is this the same as yours rupert??
any ideas anyone??
perhaps the brakes are just weak?

Ps. I'm sure when i've been on the back of my bro's R1 it stopped in about 6ft from 100mph on my sv it takes about 600yrds

Yes, that does sound like the same thing.

Like you, I don't make a habit of emergency braking, and I might be dwelling on it because I'd just got new tyres. I'd also just been riding a Gladius, tho I'd not done any emergency stops on that!

That's a possibility I guess - not sure why that would have given rise to what I experienced tho - could you elucidate?

thanks
