Hello fellow SV riders. I've had my SV about 6 weeks now, I use it every day for the commute to work so starting to get a feel for it.
I do find the engine to be much tighter than i'm used to, requiring heavier use of the clutch to try to smooth out the raggedness, especially harsh engine breaking if in the wrong gear. Last weekend did a full overhaul checking various aspect of the bike as I got the impression the previous owner was bit of a numbtie. The clutch cable was too tight with the bite point being too high. Also the bike just felt held back, you know whats coming, the rear brake was seizing. 1st annoyance, had to split the caliper with a resulting re-bleed, also you cant drive out the pad retaining pins as theres only a hole on one side, whats that about ! I had to cut one of the caliper bolts as they had also seized in the caliper, luckily this was only a £2 spend at the local Suzuki shop. Cooper greased to the max now. So finally to the point of this thread, the out of date tool kit under the rear seat. Its almost like the kit doesn't match the bike. As an example if your clutch cable snapped ( and you've got a spare ) you would struggle to use this kit to replace it. There is no slim fitting 11mm tool to remove the clutch cable / socket cover. Also no long reach allen key for the tank retaining bolts. My old Revere had Twin sparks (1989) and I'm sure it had better pick up when dropping down a gear for quick accelerating at high speed, there wasn't that lag where the piston gets initially flooded with fuel and has to clear it before it can accelerate ![]() |

The sv toolkit is handy for doing up the occasional loose bolt or Cap head and adjustment of the chain in emergency , that`s about it really , keep it there as you never know when you will need it .

Yeah but you have to be very careful with it , the Allen key is short and can catch on the paintwork of the tank if your in a hurry .

That's just common sense. You can't expect long reach allen keys in the basic kit.
Personally I wouldn't know how to change the clutch cable, but if you're prepared enough to have a spare cable! then surely Shirley you'd check to see what tools you need |

I always throw the tool kit in the shed and forget about it.
I have decent tools to use at home and an RAC membership if anything goes wrong on the road. |
