Default "Daytime" MOT?

Well, I finally bought a race bike!
In fact, due to Ebay last minute madness, I may have actually bought TWO!

... and I'm pleased to say they are both Suzukis! Even though I was actually shopping for an R6 or a CBR 600

Both have V5's but neither is in any kind of road going shape with one being a Bob farnham tuned ex edurance racer 750 SRAD with big rad and the other being a fully kitted 600. So what do they need to get through a "daytime" MOT.

A brake light? No lights? Reflector? It would be extremely handy to do the initial suspension set ups on the road rather than an open pit lane track day.

Anyone know the official info?
cheers,
Carl

I went on a rideout with 2 guys a couple of years back that were on their race bikes & had daytime MOTs.

IIRC, they had no headlights but a tail/brake light is required. Indicators don't have to be present either I think, but if they are fitted then they have to work.

Other than that I think everything else applies the same i.e. display a legal number plate, road legal exhaust etc, taxed & insured...

Nice work Berlin, should go at your pace a little more effortlessly than the hornet

Pretty sure El saxos right (though I've seen trackbikes mot'd and exhausts weren't looked at despite being insanely loud). My mate needed a bike mot'ing fast so just wired in a 'total loss' () brake light in and gave it a daylight running MOT.

According to my MOT station.

There is no such thing as a "daytime" MOT anymore.
They just mark everything down as an "advisory".

Oh no - does that mean it's up to the coppers discretion?!

Using a track bike on the road is asking to be pulled anyway.
Even if you do everything you need to to get it fully road legal it will still be a traffic police magnet

Thats why the daylight is "In parentheses"

So each needs a brake light (and hence brake light switch) is that front or just rear brake or both?
A number plate
A reflector.
Obviously the rest of the bikes will be mechanically perfect because you don't race a bike that isn't/ Its kind of defeating the point

Not too worried about the Boys in blue as I only want the bikes on the road long enough to set them up. There aren't a whole lot around here anyway

You don't need a brake light to get an MOT, if one is fitted it must work but you don't have to have one:

The entire brake light test in inapplicable to a race bike with no lights on it, you will get an advisory stating not to ride in anything other than daylight, and also not to ride in conditions with seriously reduced visibility, so no fog etc

Don't fit any lights to the bike and it'll be fine, you DO need a legal sized number plate and prism type reflector, not a sticker

Obviously the wisdom of riding a bike with no brake light on the road is another thing entirely, I've almost collected a couple of the supermoto guys who don't fit one going into corners...

I'm pretty sure it'd be both front & back brakes.

Found this link which might help a bit: http://www.motinfo.gov.uk/htdocs/m1i00000001.htm I had a quick scan through and I saw a couple of items which it says are exempt if the vehicle is only used during daylight and not in conditions of low visibility e.g. headlights, so I think these are the expemptions you need to look out for.

HTH

EDIT beaten to it by TLW!
