I have just bought a rear light unit which has led indictors built in.When i connected it to my sv k3 the indicators flash to quick, the unit came with no instruction, the unit has a plug to connect to the wire loom 3 wires and one wire each for the indicator, the old ones had two wire each for indicators. The unit did have two white resistors with a wire coming out of each end.
Where do I connect these resistors, I have looked at other threads and no one says where to fit them Any help |

If you only have one wire coming from the unit for each indicator, then it will probably need wired like this. (I know! I can't draw...).
It doesn't matter which way round you fit the resistor, as long as it's wired in parallel as shown. I don't know the wire colours but as long as the three wire plug you mentioned is plugged in, and you wire the two single wires from the new unit to the positve switch wire for each indicator you'll be fine. |

Hi I know this may sound stupid but is the resistor connected onto the negative from the indicator loom to positve on indicator itself
or positve to postive Nice drawing by the way |

Think of it this way.
For the left hand indicator: Connect the resistor across the two wires from the bikes left indicator wiring loom, then terminate the wire from the new combo indicator unit to the positive wire from the bikes left indicator wiring loom. i.e. the positive wire from the loom will be connected to two things, one side of the resistor, and the wire from the new combo indicator unit. The negative wire from the loom will only be connected to the other wire from the resistor. For the right hand indicator: Same as above, but obviously using the right indicator wring loom etc. Glad you like my ace picture! P.S. I'm assuming the 3-wire connector you mention is for the rear/brake lights, and matches the connector on the bike for the old rear/brake light unit? If there's any doubt, plug this in and just check that those lights work OK. If so, then wire in the indicators as described. Last edited by Philbo; 24-10-09 at 04:05 PM. |

Road runner, check the specs of the resistors, iirc it needs to be 10 ohm 35w resistors, (theres a thread somewhere) I messed about with this for a while and had a couple of concersn with the heat dissipation and possible damage to the bike, decided to fit a new flasher relay instead £10-£20
Also, how fast is too fast, mot rwquires 60 - 120 flshes per minute, so just because they are faster than before does not mean they are too fast. hth |

Full description on this old post... 10Ohm 20Watts should be OK as well... I=12/10=1.2A P=IV=1.2x12=14.4 Watts - well witthin the usable range of a 20W resistor. The higher the resistance the lower the wattage, but this also increases the frequency of the flash. Good point KG, I just assumed the resistors supplied would be OK. Well worth a quick check. Dont, get a flasher relay instead.
Its a much better solution that is easier to do, and doesn't generate loads of heat.
