Default Australia's response to immigrants.

What the Australian Priminister has to say about immigrants.

Muslims who want to live under Islamic Sharia law were told on Wednesday to get out of Australia, as the government targeted radicals in a bid to head off potential terror attacks.

Separately, Rudd angered some Australian Muslims on Wednesday by saying he supported spy agencies monitoring the nation's mosques. Quote:

'IMMIGRANTS, NOT AUSTRALIANS, MUST ADAPT. Take It Or Leave It. I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we are offending some individual or their culture. Since the terrorist attacks on Bali, we have experienced a surge in patriotism by the majority of Australians.'

'This culture has been developed over two centuries of struggles, trials and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom.'

'We speak mainly ENGLISH, not Spanish, Lebanese, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or any other language. Therefore, if you wish to become part of our society, learn the language!'

'Most Australians believe in God. This is not some Christian, right wing, political push, but a fact, because Christian men and women, on Christian principles, founded this nation, and this is clearly documented. It is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools. If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as your new home, because God is part of our culture.'

'We will accept your beliefs, and will not question why. All we ask is that you accept ours, and live in harmony and peaceful enjoyment with us.'

'This is OUR COUNTRY, OUR LAND, and OUR LIFESTYLE, and we will allow you every opportunity to enjoy all this. But once you are done complaining, whining, and griping about Our Flag, Our Pledge, Our Christian beliefs, or Our Way of Life, I highly encourage you take advantage of one other great Australian freedom, 'THE RIGHT TO LEAVE'.'

'If you aren't happy here then LEAVE. We didn't force you to come here. You asked to be here. So accept the country YOU accepted.'

A bit un-PC by British standards but...

Yes, it must have been a real challenge to drive the indigenous Aboriginal population from the land so you can claim it as your own...

This has been floating round for at least a year or so. Not sure if the Oz PM actually even said it but I agree to a degree.

As a half Irish immigrant, with a sister who is adopted (Asian) I guess I could be on the first deportation boat if Nick Griffin had his way.

I agree with some of it, i.e. if you are coming here then "live as the Romans do." Other than that I have no problem with asylum seekers, and immigration in general. A rhetorical question; should S. Africa, America, Austrailia, Spain et all send back the British immigrants?

That said there is an infrastructure to support.

I agree 100% with the notion that you should make an effort to fit in if you move to (or even visit) a new country.

But if people already there are unwilling to do so and you marginalise them, IMO you are more likely to encourage exactly the type of radicalism the Australians are seeking to avoid.

Errm, I'd be rather surprised if that came from the current Prime Minister who reversed his predessor's draconian anti-asylum seeker legislation which imprisoned legitimate and illegitimate boat-people essentially indefinitely. The Australian electorate took sufficient dislike to the former PM and his reactionary {White Australia Policy,-"we'll decide who comes to Australia"}-values to oust the party, and the PM himself lost his seat. The result however of softening the severity of the response to illegal immigrants has been a massive wave of boats attempting to be detained within Australian territory so they can claim refugee status. A recent detainee was quoted as saying they wanted to be caught for that reason. So, we don't have any better solution than the EU with your boatloads arriving in Spain.
