Default Removal of Yokes

Hey folks

Turns out I have to replace the bottom yoke on my SV, having never done this before im not 100% sure what this entails, ive read my haynes manual and it seems like I need some tools that I have not yet collected. I am pretty new to working on bikes and my first exposure to the inside of them has been in the last few weeks while trying to repair mine.

My bike is an SV650S K4

It would seem I need to aquire myself a C-Spanner, any ideas on what size I would need? Also I need a socket for the head nut but again despite having has a look around I have no idea what size I need, can someone shed some light on this for me? If anyone knows of anything I should aquire to make this easier then please let me know! Any words of wisdom on this are much appreciated!

I think you can buy sets of c spanners for next to nothing, i think the central nut might be 24mm, measure it across the flats, thats how you get the size, when you see say, 24mm A/F, it means across flats.

I take it you cant fudge the old yoke then Dave?

nah, I dont think so. Im not going to get to have a look at the bike until next Sunday but im pretty sure given Robs thinking that the yoke is unsalvagable

Sorry dave, ive just checked, i got me wires crossed, i think the central nut is 32mm, not 24mm .

I have just looked at the bottom of my yoke and i dont have a castellated nut which you would normally have for a c spanner, mine looks like a allan headed bolt or nut.
I have never taken bottom yoke off before so dont know what you need, yours might be different to mine.

Yeah the nut is 32mm

There is another way without the use of a c spanner, if your careful and not mallet happy, i have done it before. Although not preferred.

C Spanners this way an adjustable one. Sorry the link is long

You can do the adjuster nuts up with a brass drift and a hammer. You don't need to put 2 million Nm of torque on there anyway.

adjuster nut ,do with large flathead screw driver ,has always worked for me (trust me i seem to always have front ends on and off) also you can use an adjustable spanner for the top nut hope that helps
