Default sv2005s soft front end?

I have just sold my 2001 sv650s 20k and replaced it with a 2005 sv650s 7k

The front end seems to bang when i hit minor pot holes where as my 2001 model seemed to pass over the same bumps fine?

I have sat on the bike and rocked it forward and back to see if i can replicate the noise but all seems fine? No bang ect....

My K3 does that, sounds like knackered head bearings, apparantly they all do it.

It's unlikely to be either of those above *. I'd suggest it's just the standard weak springs the SV comes fitted with, in all probabillity your previous SV had had the "oil & Spring" change already and your new one requires it.

*always possible of course, but SV's are know for there under sprung front ends as standard.
Cheers Mark.

It's the fork oil in the damper rods, but it really does sound like clunky bearings.

Is the clunking actually detrimental to handling?

My '09 "clunked" from new with its 90kg rider. The rapid motion of the under sprung front would have contributed to hydraulic lock.
Springs will certainly help.

Cheers

Yes. The clunk is caused by a lack of compliance in the suspension which may briefly overload the tyre and cause fork flex and vibration. It will generally unsettle the bike, lowering its limits on uneven surfaces. In the same way it also lowers braking limits as the front chatters, skips and skids. You may not always hear it clunking but the same mechanisms are at work.

Cheers

So what's the remedy? different forks? I've got harder springs in mine and it feels ok (much better than standard) and it isn't bottoming out but I still get the clunk every now and then.
