Need a bit of advice, found a wound on one of our cats this evening, looks fairly serious
Obviously she's going to the vets first thing tomorrow but if there's any veterinary trained folks on here what I'd like to know is if there's anything we should/shouldn't do tonight The red part of the wound is around 10mm in diameter, it's obviously open and there was some pus ejected when we cleaned it up with salt water, cat was in some discomfort but nothing worse than grooming (she's not keen on that either). The smell of infection filled the room while we did so, as a long hair we thought it was just a bit of crap stuck in her fur that happens fairly frequently but not this time Wound is located on the RHS, around half way up the body slightly to the back, as if a dog had bitten from above, but there are no accompanying wounds on the LHS to indicate this IMAGE LINKS FOLLOWING - DON'T CLICK UNLESS YOU KNOW YOU WANT TOO AND DON'T ****ING MOAN IF YOU DO THEN DON'T LIKE IT!!! http://h.imagehost.org/0405/DSCF8432_copy.jpg http://h.imagehost.org/0108/DSCF8433_copy.jpg http://h.imagehost.org/0422/DSCF8434_copy.jpg http://h.imagehost.org/0606/DSCF8435_copy.jpg

That looks the same as the ones Rambo had at the hotel here. Believe it or not its self inflicted!
turns out rambo is an Emo and rather than have irritated skin, he licks it till there uis no skin to irritate. Could be a sign of a flea allergy. Dose of "Spot-on" tonight and half an antihistamine tables (Piriton) is what the vet told me to do last week. Hope all turns out well. C |

Cheers dude, spoke to the vet and he says it's possibly an abscess that's burst, not sure how clear it is from the photos but there looks like there's cavity under the hole in the skin about the size of a small malteser, the amount of pus that came out would suggest something around that size Thankfully they've booked us in at 09:00 tomorrow so she'll get seen ASAP

Thanks mate
Cat was happy eating and purring, before we attacked her with the salt water anyway, so should be fine to wait until tomorrow ![]()

Could also have been a tick infection, so be careful as some ticks can spread Lymes disease which we humans can catch too and its a nasty business if you get that.
Longhaired cats from my experience pick up quite a few ticks and the usually get rid of most of them but if one of them gets in under the skin it can cause an infection/ abscess like the one you've got there mate. PM VT, she used to be a vet ![]()

![]() ![]() "Our survey said........" Cat bite... There was a second, much smaller puncture next to the main one, we could feel something there but didn't want to mess with it too much. Vet's cleaned her up and pumped her full of antibiotics so hopefully she'll be back to her moody self soon enough...
