Default Cutting out

Hi all, my SK5 lives outside since we moved house. A few weeks ago it underwent a full £300 service - its a mint bike on an 05 with 17k on the clock.

Anyway, with the weather it has not been used much. I have been starting it up and riding around 10 to 15 miles every 2 weeks for the last 6 weeks odd.

I started it today and left it running for a bit only to find that if I revved it briskly it would cut sometimes cut out afterwards. The engine was warm and had ben running fine, but if I gave it a quick lot of throttle the bike revs and then afterwards cuts out.

My instinct tells me this is down to the fuel as I have not fuelled it for around 5 weeks now, and it is still on the last little bit I put in 5 weeks ago.

It seems to ride ok, just when started up for the first time. I am about to go out on it and get fuel etc now so will see if any better after.

Wel it did cut out whenever I revved it whilst stationary ,after the rev itself.

I put £10 of fresh fuel in and it seems to have sorted it out. Is this normal if you leave fuel in for a long period of time?

I wouldnt worry too much about it, if I rev mine hard then let go of the throttle it cuts (while stationary obviously), just release the throttle a little more gently and it'll be fine.

Yea, it isn't uncommon. What happens is that the fuel "separates out" - a sort of gunge collects, which can block or at least impeed the flow of fuel. Also, any water in the fuel will sink to the bottom, which might have been giving you some problems aswell.

You can use silkolene PRO FST as a fuel stabiliser - 200 ml per tankfull (17 litres)

mine does this if i start it when warm and give it a handful, it's never done it under normal conditions though.
