Hi all,
I have been riding my SV for a while now and didn't realise that the brake light is supposed to come on with the rear brake! Now, you may well think, "How the hell did he not know that?", but when I did my training, we were on bikes where the brake light would only come on with the front brake (instructor told us so), same was true of my 125 when I was on L-plates, so when I bought the SV and it did the same thing, I automatically assumed that it was normal! Anyway, I've been told that the brake light should come on with the rear brake and that there's an adjuster somewhere to make it do it. Please could someone tell me where the adjuster is? I couldn't find it in the Haynes manual. I have a K7 (unfaired) model. Thanks in advance ![]() |

It's in the electrical section. If its the same manual I've got, you look at the brakes section and it says "look in the electrical section", then you do that and it says "page 13" or whatever, and you look at page 13 and its not there. However look 2 pages earlier and you'll find it. With pictures and things too.
It's near the brake pedal, behind the heel plate on a faired pointy - the naked might be a bit different, but you can look at the springs attached to the brake mechanism to find it. One spring is the return spring, and the other goes to the switch.

inside of the brake footpeg you'll see two springs, the short one is the brake pedal return, the other a longish thin spring is the brake light switch spring. with bike ignition on pull this spring gently, Look for brake light to come on.
if yes, you'll see you can adjust it on an adjusting screw with a lock nut. ![]() hth's

easiest thing to check is the switch. We can move on to other possibilities once we've eliminated that.
