Default Curvy not running.. Again! grrr

Hi guys,
I've got a 2000 SV650S, no mods apart from end can and lowers (so both cosmetic)
Some of you may remember my Bang! thread and then the One Problem to Another - No Spark thread.
Well, bike's not firing up at the moment
Got a multimeter and tested a few things.. Orange-white wire is fine. Coils are getting 12V. Kill switch is working fine.. ~12v at the connector to the Ignition Control Unit and then drops so 0 when the switch is flicked (good good).
All lights, indicators, horn etc are working fine.
Bike turns over but won't fire (I'm getting no spark to the plugs, even though the coils are getting 12v.

I thought I found the problem yesterday (Throttle Position Sensor) but that seems OK now. Tested for continuity between the 3 wires going into the TPS and to the respective connection on the plug to the ICU. Two of them are fine, but the blue wire is not giving a reading (multimeter just stays at 1 to indicate infinite resistance). This wire doesn't go to any other components apart from the ICU, so can be no dodgy connections where it joins other circuits.
Could this be my problem? How would I go about fixing it?

Thanks in advance,
Josh

[EDIT]: Just went down to double check the 3 wires (Blue, yellow, black) again and now they all have continuity. Argh, back to square one

OK, just went out to take some more readings:

Battery (with ignition on or off) was reading 15.6V. That seems high to me

The coils (well rear at least) are receiving 14.2V, which is the same as the reading at the Ignition Control Unit connector plug (orange-white wire)
Resistance across the rear coil = 5.1 ohms, so all is well there.

Resistance across plug cap and coil (with multimeter set to k ohms scale).. no reading obtained - Initially flashed a random number then back to 1 (indicating infinite resistance, as if the probes weren't touching anything).

I then took the plug cap off the end of the HT lead and tested resistance between the lead and one of the terminals on the coil (as above).. reading obtained was 164.0 I think (not quite sure how to read it, but I assume the last digit is indicating one decimal place. That's going on the logic that the screen read 51 (scalre set to 200) for the first resistance reading across coil terminals when it should be 4.8 to 5.something)
That seems very high no? (Just so you guys know, reading was taking with multimeter set to k ohm scale)

Then I took a reading of the resistance acros the plug cap itself (while it was disconnected). Multimeter set to K ohms scale again. Screen read 992, which I assume means 99.2. I'm guessing this is a big problem as it's supposed to be ~5 Kohms IIRC.

I really am baffled. Anyone got any ideas?

Of course I could have messed up all of the above tests, but I got some of them as they should be so

I hate electrical problems!

TPS will do nothing to the starting of the bike, i had mine removed for a while and it still worked

Have you checked the flywheel pickup sensor, if you are getting no spark then its possable that this has become disconnected or broken

Woo not the only dead bike.
Give me a call or txt if you want a hand im free wed afternoon for a week.

You said coil is getting a voltage, what condition are the leads in? and hints with the plugs ( spacing to the electrode colour, oily ect )?

Also sure your side stand sensor fix/rewire isnt mucking up at all ?

earth a spark plug thread on the engine and see if its sparking - doesnt have to be the one thats in it.

is fuel getting to the carbs, fuel filter is known to block

Oh right. Did it run OK when you were riding? No erratic backfiring?
Someone said it could mess up something to do with the timing and the ICU not 'knowing' when to cause a spark. Is there any truth in that?

Also how do I check the flywheel sensor? I can't see it in the Haynes Manual index. Does it have another name?

Done that.. that's how I know it's not sparking. Thanks anyway though.

Not sure if fuel's getting to the carbs. They smell very petrolly. Any way to check this? I would say it was, 'cause the engine has smelt flooded when trying to start it for too long before.

Dont worry about the TPS, it will not affect why yr bike is not starting, its only a throttle position sensor, dont know what its affect is as i dont ride my SV smoothly to notice.
The pickup coil is what tells the ignition unit what the position of the engine is so it can then fire the spark at the correct time.

haynes usualy puts it as pick up coil

No? But what if you damage your beauty by not riding smoothly?!

Is that different to the pulse generator coil? If it's the same, I think that's alright...

Youve seen my SV, its not gona win any style awards.

Thats it, why do you think its "alright", have you tested it, wire it up to a digital multimeter correctly and turn the engine over and see if it gives the correct reading. Buzz the wires back to the iginition unit, check that its good. Also check that the ignition unit is getting power correctly. After that you prolly need to get a spare ignition unit to test if yours has fried.

If you've
got power
got correct resistance (ish) from pulse coil
got continuity from pulse coil to ICU
then check resistance between the anti hotwire wire and earth.
