Default Rubbish GSX-R disks

This is how the disks on my brand shiny new GSR-R 750 ended up with only 100 miles on the clock!!!

Tried to get Suzuki to replace them on warranty explaining that i was aware things rust in the wet and i HAD ridden it in the wet but with it being a new bike i'd also cleaned the thing thoroughly after every ride and it only had 100 miles on the clock from new!! My SV didn't look like this after years of year-round riding.

They said no

Last time i take the thing out in the wet!!!!

I have had a problem with corrosion in places I havn't had before, naimly the side-plates of my chain and also my disc's on my SV. Moisture in the air will not help, neither will any small smattering of salt - and there is plenty around at the moment.

I notice you have some dirt there on your fork lower. How easy is it to clean away the corrosion? If you have cleaned it off previously, does it re-appear in the morning?

Yeah, piccy was taken at work after riding in so not washed there. Took it after a few lads at work said they wouldn't accept it on a new bike and to send Suzuki a photo.

They suggested wire wool to remove it and going to try that this weekend but (and its hard to see from the pic) it seems to be peeling away in thin laminations as if that part of the disk surface is coming away in thin layers. Rear disks are as-new but the black coating reaches the running surface on the rear ones.

Annoying as its my first brand new vehicle so i've been trying to keep it mint. Very frustrating!

Is it on both discs? The inside of the left disc looks okay, but it's difficult to see too clearly in the photos.

Thats not pretty especially on such a new bike.

My GSXR has done 24K in all sorts of weather and my disks dont look like that, in fact apart from a few paint chips they look like new no sign of rust at all.

Have you been back to the dealer about it, or did you deal directly with Suzuki ?

Its both disks, offside one worse then the other. Inner surfaces of both disks are fine and as-new.

This is through the dealer, may look and see if i can contact Suzuki direct but first going to try wire wool and see how it looks. Understand why they wont honour any corrosion claims but seems a bit unfair as when the pic was taken the bike had only been out a few times, had been properly washed and was stored indoors. Rest of the bike is showroom nick.

they just say i should have dried the disk off before putting the bike away (which i'll be doing from now on if i manage to clear them off!)

Wire wool will remove the corrosion, but wont prevent it from returning. The only way to do that is to apply a coating too the layer to prevent air and salt from reaching it, to avoid the electrochemical process.

But that would be a silly thing to do on brake discs...
