Default Itunes converting to MP3

There's a couple of tracks I want on Itunes and they're not available anywhere else.
I don't have an Ipod and probably never will.

But if I can purchase the tracks by downloading Itunes, can I convert them easily?

I know they are protected by DRM.

I want to pay for the tracks legitamatly, but I don't want to buy an Ipod

Any knowledge out there

I think the DRM will usually stop you doing a direct conversion.

I use http://www.nch.com.au/switch/index.html for file conversions, the free version is quick and simple, and it works. I've not heard anyone having any problems from using it. It won't work with DRM files though. There may be others that will.

If you can record the DRM files to an audio format CD, you can then rip it back into mp3 using Windows Mediaplayer or similar. IIRC it does need to be an audio format CD, not a data format (a while since I've done that). Not sure what sort of quality you'll end up with.

I also use Audacity free version for ripping vinyl to digital (CD or mp3), not sure if that would take DRM files??

Last I heard, iTunes doesn't sell tracks with DRM anymore. You used to be able to buy iTunes+ tracks which were higher quality and DRM free, but then they changed the whole system so they're all DRM free now.

1. Buy the songs from iTunes with crippling DRM

2. Download the songs via p2p in the superior DRM free format

3. Enjoy the music you paid for without the guilt of knowing some music exec in LA may have to wait another month to get his new Learjet

Either way, whether you circumvent the DRM or download the tracks illegally, you're infringing copyright, so it makes no difference...

DRM free one you should just be able to convert to AAC format and they work that way, i downloaded a DRM free track and converted it to AAC and now have it on my nokia as a ringtone

With most iTunes stuff now, and I am presuming here that you have the iTunes software, you can simply download it and then highlight it and then go to Advanced and then Create MP3 version. Then go into what ever other software you use and search of MP3's and it will be there. Simples. Do it all the time to put stuff onto my phone

What track do you want, i may have it already, then i can email it to you

Easiest way for Itunes stuff (Beofre they removed the DRM. Copy tunes onto cd as a music disc, then re-import back into itunes I had a CDRW for this exact purpose

Viney, Thanks for the offer, although I doubt you've got the 2 Springsteen tracks I want?

I'll try the MBK method first and download Itunes, then convert them to Mp3 either through Itunes or the CRW way.

Otherwise there a chap at work who's got an Ipod, so he'll be able to download the tracks.

Its annoying that I have to do it this way, as I normally buy my tracks on Amazon, DRM free

No they aren't. Itunes has been DRM free since last year.

What are you planning on playing them on? Your player may already support AAC, in which case you won't have to do any conversion.
