Default what should I do about nuisance phone calls

For the 3rd time since christmas we have been subjected overnight to nuisance phone calls. They start about 2:30am. and by 3am I had disconnected the phones.

It is a lad, within a minute or so of putting down the phone, he is ringing again. last night it must have been 20 times.

But the plonker forgot this time to withhold his number.

I am all for no longer disconnecting the phone next time and keeping an exact record of the times and making a complaint. It ruined our nights kip for the whole family.

My phone and number is sip voip so I doubt he could get it confused with a mates.

We were tempted to play him back and phone at 2pm when he will be asleep. But in retrospect, if we are to make a complaint. We need to be clean.

A quick check of the last 5 calls received says he called last night at
3:05, 3:44. 3:46, 3:48. I disconnected the phones about 3 so he obviously kept trying even after it was going to voicemail.

Should I simply apply time filters to my phones to ensure we get no calls (no ideal as we need to know if issues with kids/grand kids). or do I complain to orange (his provider) or to plod.

Report it to plod and phone your provider to get them to bar the number, I think they know the caller ID and will bar it even if he withholds it

Don't know how much weight your side would be against his provider, but if the Police were involved I suspect they may write him a stern letter which should give him a wake up call (sorry, no pun intended...)

Go to plod.

Its what you pay your taxes for.

We had the same thing a while ago and reported it, they came round took some details and went off to speak to the other party.

No more calls.

Tim, on the subjects of making phone calls, do you know a script to have a computer auto-dial a number, log whether it was answered or busy, and let you know.

It needs to work at random intervals

Can you help?

Hmm, now if one was to combine a while loop containing a call to minicom with a dial number and a random sleep command, would I be on the right track to meet your requirement?

you are aware no doubt that such a script if misused would be a right royal pain in the bum should the wrong number be inadvertently entered.

If you are suffering harassment, take it to your provider and see what they say. They may take it seriously. However I suffered with it for a while and all they said to me was that for a fee they could change my number. Hardly helpful. Maybe finding out who is doing it and sending them a lunchbox full of turds would help...

My phone provider is a German company, sipgate.co.uk, I doubt that they would be able to help me. However, I will try.
