Default Winter Coldness - Need advice

After some advice for coldness with hands.

I rode from Newport to Reading on the M4 to save some money. Big winter gloves and inner gloves on with the heat pockets as Wednesday. My palms were warm but my fingers froze as i suspected. I've looked into heated gloves but at £130 i decided another route. Heated grips appear to be about £40 but with the hassle of fitting them is there any other easier option?

Also with A.S.H's problems with the controllers is it possible to build your own heated grips with an element mounted on the grips?

And do the wind deflectors do enough to help against coldness?

Wind deflectors/Bar Muffs work great, if your circulation is poor or you just hate the cold then adding heated grips is a blessing.

With both i have been using summer gloves and happy as pie, having changed bikes today, i'm using just bar muffs now and its bearable, just not toasty any more.

Might have to move to something thicker then Alpine* goretex 365's for longer distance tho.

The big problem is the wind, get rid of that and there is no need to have super thick gloves.

Muffs though they look crap do work. They are cheap and can easily be removed and swapped between bikes.
Just make sure you get ones that are stiffened so that they don't push on the levers.

Still its nice to be able to just flick on the heated grips even in summer when it starts to get a little chilly!

Also considering heated hiking gloves which are about £30 but no one seems to have a pair to try on and i don't want to order a pair from amazon to have to send them back because they're crap.

Think i will go with heated grips for now. Should be better on the way home as the 30mph winds won't be here today and make the severn bridge a bit safer.

bought some £30 grips off ebay and will see if they work. Considering the 12v heated back protector insert on ebay. It's £35. Problem is my feet are the next trouble. I don't want to shell out lots of money for something which i won't be using much.

I have bought it now. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...=STRK:MEWNX:IT

Only problem is you need a 12v socket installed. I already got one but shouldn't be a problem. Will report back next weekend once i've tested it.

Grips all the way. Ive had them fitted the last year (first time in 7 years riding) and theyre amazing. Definitely the first thing I would put on a bike. When its cold out there, its just comforting to know that you can keep your hands cold even if everything else is ready to drop off.

Given the choice of one or the other I'd keep the muffs and ditch the heated grips, without the muffs the grips only heat your palm and your knuckles will freeze

But together they'll see you through anything the UK can throw at you with ease...

I've got winter mitts and grips for £30 seemed like a better solution for value than £130 gloves.

The heated back insert seems interesting. For £35 i will give it a spin, worst comes to the worst, i have a heated back for my car seat.
