Well the time is almost upon me to get me licence but I need some advice.
Basically what the process is nowadays to getting a licence. I've got a CBT and I think I need to do a theory test then training then the test for a restricted licence but I could be (probably) wrong. How many training sessions are needed to take the test? Is there a minimum? How much will the whole shabang be roughly, theory, training and test included? Also if there are any centres you would recommend in the Exeter area. Shopping list aside, sorry to ask so many questions but it would clear my mind up greatly. Seems awfully complicated atm with the various kinds of motorcycle licences. Just need some clarity on the situation so I know how much time and money it involves. Thanks guys ![]() |

CBT
Theory Training Mod 1 Mod 2 How long have you had your CBT and do you have much road experience ? If you have been on a 125cc for a year or two i would say. 2 days training would be fine and your looking at about £ 400/450 all in for that . How old are you if you are under 21 you will have to do a restricted licence. If you are over 21 you have the choice to do restricted or unrestricted. If under 21 you will be on a 125cc and resticted to 33bhp for 2 years If over 21 you can do full licence on a bike over 46bhp i think and you can ride anything you like

CBT >> Theory test >> couple of days training >> Practical test (part 1&2).
I did CBT then 2 weeks later did 3 days of training and then my test. I paid £395 for the 3 days + test but this was the old test (before the two parts) etc. I didn't ride a bike inbetween CBT and test so only had 3 days. |

I'm under 21 so yeah, I'll be a member of the elusive 33hp club (yay), been riding for about a year. If I find 2 days too little, I'll slap an extra day or two on there. Module 1 & 2, what do they cover? I assume they're part of the actual test.

Mod 1 is riding round cones its nothing to worry about i don't think you will find anyone thats done it and can say it is.
Some People say its dangerous but to be honest its such a simple manoeuvre and anyone that falls off doing so shouldnt be on the roads imo . Mod 2 is on the road with an instructor he will be on a bike too or in a car with a one way radio giving you directions. 2 days should be fine if you have been on the road for a year and you will be doing the test on your own bike i take it ? In the case you should doddle it . just try and enjoy your ride and do you best to keep your nerves under control

Nah, I think I'll hire a bike, play it safe. Sure the controls will be different but I'm there to learn and I'll feel much more comfortable with a bike I won't mind dropping too much.
Thanks very much for helping me out guys, any advice on the test itself or the theory would be much appreciated and if anyone knows any good schools in the exeter area that they can recommend that would be ace. |

Well it's just that I wouldn't be happy with doing it on my own bike and I'd rather do it on theirs. I did my CBT on my bike and it worried me to hell about droppng it, especially in the downpour I had. The instructor recommended that I take my proper test on a hire bike as he said I was too distracted to ride safely and that I locked my arms etc etc. I know it would be better in terms of learning the ropes of the bike to do it on the one I have but I don't want to hash it up just before I aim to sell it. Just me being paranoid I suspect
