Default Miles per gallon for SV?

hi i bought a my sv650s k3 thinking it would be quite good for petrol. i seem to be spending alot of money on petrol (being i am in UK and they mug us on fuel prices)

what is the expected millage per gallon for an sv650 k3? or any similar year models. i am interested to hear from loads of different years of bikes and different styles of ridding them. For instance i drive along a motorway to uni and back every day so i dont stop and start alot so my fuel comsuption is pretty good, compared to london where there is a red light every 10 meters!!

i curently have about 45 miles per gallon with motorway ridding. but my sv650s is RESTRICTED!!! does any one know if this will affect fuel comsuption?

You can check a large database of vehicles here. Using advanced search you can find 136 SV650s and see whose getting what and also if they have modified their bikes in anyway etc. It all depends on the owners supplying accurate details but its still worthwhile.

you appear to have much better miles per galloon than i do. you recon if i take of the restriction will improve it as the rings in the engine cause reduced air flow and also cause a dip in acceleration when trying to accelerate

How you ride effects it. I can see a drop in tank range if I cane it everywhere.

Is it naked or faired?

no, but if your rippling the throttle back trying to get the bike to accel quicker you'll be draining unburnt fuel through your overflows and therefore worse mpg. Try going easier on the throttle, see how if helps your eco riding.

45 mpg sounds about ok, but you should be getting more really if you are holding a constant throttle to maintain a constant engine speed. My SV (1999, carb'd) was once restricted, and it had no better fuel economy then than it does now. I get around 130 miles for every 13 litres (so 10 miles to a litre); I commute in london.

Do you use wide throttle openings? Do you thrash the nuts off it? I found there was no point in going over 7500 rpm when restricted.

Just to be sure, you might like to get the throttle position sensor inspected and have the throttle bodies synchronised to ensure efficient use of fuel

BTW, the cold weather will also have an effect on how much fuel you use, since the ECU keeps the FI on an enrichment (cold starting) cycle for longer than it would do in the summer.

IIRC, the restriction (if it's the washer type) affects how much air is allowed into the cylinders, and your throttle affects the fuel delivery. If you put lots of fuel in (i.e. you're riding with the throttle wide or near wide open), there ain't enough air to burn the fuel, so it disappears out of your exhaust. Typical symptom of this is a lot of black, petrolly soot coming from the end of the exhaust when you're riding.

Overflows? Whatwhatwhaaat?

FI international restrictor kit makes them run rich. ECU one doesn't.

Was quite gutting to see seggons on the GM1 put about a fiver in the tank as my curvy had drank 12 liters over 70 miles of serious abuse!
