Default Tips for saving money

With todays high cost of living what tips do you have for saving money.
I know we can stop smoking and drinking but I mean silly things like below.
Put a house brick in the cistern and save on water rates
Only put enough water in the kettle for the need
Fit a cut off adaptor so things don't go on standby but actually switch off.
Riding/driving at lower rev levels
Short shifting

Please give your suggestions

Perhaps in wrong forum so if a mod deems fit please move to IB[Reading TW's Thread]

Only half fill the petrol tank of your car at a time. Saves wear and tear on tyres, etc

Well, one thing im looking at the moment is getting a water meter fitted, i worked at a house of a guy that works for severn trent water and he told me unless you have a massive family you WILL save quite a bit by having a meter fitted, so im thinking about this.
I dont buy into all this standby crap, the bulbs lighting your rooms will save / cost you more than a very low consumption led bulb on your telly.

Fit low energy bulbs wherever you can, cos they cost next to nothing to run.
Insulation, no point in heating your house if it all escapes.

food shooping and alchol probabaly where i spend most of my money.

make a shopping list and stick to it, my brother does and it saves him about £50 a week, as opposed to my 4-5 visits to Tesco a week where i usually spend at least £20 a time.

Keep a detailed spreadsheet of everthing you spend your money on then you will soon start to realise where you can cut back, beer was one of the main ones for me.

get your food shopping in order-I used to be a bit of a store snob(i'd only shop at sainsburys etc)but decided to give the likes of farmfoods and aldi a go-saving major money now-since restarting bodybuilding i eat like a horse so every penny counts example-we use a loaf a day-Hovis best of both -asda etc £1.30 or 3 for £3 , farmfoods same loaf 2 for £1-buy 12 at a time and freeze them, Aldi can't be beaten on there fresh fruit and veg prices-they have a different top six every week.
Use the money off vouchers- if i spend 150 quid in farmfoods i save atleast 20quid by using them.
I cook everything at once, portion it then freeze it,then a couple mins in micro when needed.
If you can buy in bulk-just bought 100kg of dog food for 35 quid instead of 50.
Before you buy anything major check for voucher codes and sign up for emails of offers-i've got a new double oven gas cooker coming next week that i saved over 200 quid on just because i hit a comparison site.
Long winded sorry but you'll save money.

It'll also improve fuel consumption. Plus just knock a couple of mph off your speed, which will also improve your MPG
