Default Coursework Help

Hello,

If you didn't know, I'm a music-tech student and I'm working on my final major project at the moment.

If you have time to have a listen, please visit http://www.wix.com/michaelgarth/audiocreation and go to the "binaural" page. On the imbedded music player there are 4 tracks, all the same passage (from JRR Tolkein's 'The Hobbit'), but all all slightly processed differently to achieve a binaural effect. There's a handy form if you'd like to give some feedback -if you liked it for example? (You can use fake email address and fake name if you want, the emails will not be used for anything other than feedback comments)

I'll be making quite a few more over the next few days, but I wanted to get some feedback to see if it's any good (my hand in is on thursday 23rd april)

Feedback would be very appreciated.

PLEASE LISTEN USING HEADPHONES (as it's binaural)

that's important...

Thanks, hope you enjoy it too.

Oh sorry, binaural is how we listen naturally (hearing a 3D world, front, behind, left right, up, down, full spherically)

With standard "stereo" you don't actually hear things as they would naturally sound (you can only really position sounds left and right)

So my project is an audiobook, with a narrator who sounds like he's inside your head and an soundscape that sounds like it's outside your head (like you hear things naturally) making it interesting

I hope that makes more sense? And you can only then hear binaurally with headphones as that's where your ears are -loudspeakers are generally positioned a fair distance away from your ears and therefore won't work.

There's a great example on youtube called the virtual barbershop which is recorded binaurally to make it sound very real, shame your headphone socket has died. Try it out on someone else's computer sometime though, it's really good (use headphones of course )

I just give all 4 tracks a shot and was impressed with what I heard. If I was to rate from most convincing to least it would be 2,3,4,1. For some reason 1 didn't give me the 'depth' that 2 did. 2 to me was the most convincing with the effects sounding further away then what the voice was. Great work.
