Default Funny noise from the front.

Curvy S, 2001 with just under 20K
Just developed a 'squeek' sounds like it is from the front, how likely is it to be front wheel bearing?
No noise until about 25 MPH then 'squeek' just like on a pushbike with a bukkled wheel, squeek............squeek..........squeek....... you get the idea.
Don't think it is engine related since the 'squeek' seems to be same at a fixed speed despite higher or lower gear, if it was engine related surely squeek speed would rise & fall with revs.
So, is it likely to be bearing, if so how easy with minimal tools to swap myself.

Ta very much.

i reccon your problem is break disc related, mabe a slight warp on either disc. that combined with break dust and you get a squeek. just take the calipers off and clean the pads and disc with some break cleaner or meths if u got it.

OK, will look, but if it was brake disc warped, would it not squeek all the time? & when I used the brake made no difference to the sound of the squeek.
What do you think.

I had a similar squeak, that increased in frequency and pitch as the road speed of the bike increased regardless of what gear I was in. My speedo sensor packed up a little while after the squeak started. When I had the speedo sensor replaced it didnt squeak anymore.

This was also coupled by an erratic movement / reading of the speedo needle.

I wander if you have got a similar problem...

Thanks fizz, will check that as well, sounds (sorry) like it could be, didn't notice needle jumping but was concentrating on the squeek.

I had a similar problem. Fitted new bearings and cleaned the calipers. No more squeek

Just for the record incase anyone searches in the future, as fizzwheel said, was the speedo sensor thingy.
Took the wheel out & it was in 4 pieces, new one in no more squeek.

Thanks for all the replies, chalk another one up to the combined knowledge of the org.
