![]() ![]() ![]() Came out this morning and got in the car, always walk around it first before getting in (check all tire are inflated) and thought at the back of my mind "I don't remember parking with my wheels turned" but getting into the car anyway, starting it up, and going to drive off. WHOA! What the heck? It's like I've got flat tires, it's going all over the place! STOP, back up to the curb again, get out. Tires still look okay, weird. Get back in, try just driving forward. Nope, still something not right. Am I still half asleep and leaving the handbrake on? No. Steering wheel definitely doesn't feel right. Get out for another look. It is then I realize that one wheel is pointing to the left and the other is pointing straight ahead. Only slightly to the left, but that's all that matters. I also notice a rather large SCUFF on the front bumper. Some COMPLETE ****ING TW*TOCK has driven right into the front of my car, hitting in such a way as to catch the front ****ing wheel and wrench it sideways, knackering the steering. And then ****ed off like the total and utter **** that they are, no note, no nothing. Had to phone work, quickly suit up and bike in to work (while grinding my teeth). A front wheel drive car with ****ed steering is going to cost a bloody fortune to put right, my insurance policy is only four days old, they are gonna LOVE me! (it's not even the first time this has happened - I don't live far from Caerphilly Castle and during The Big Cheese three years ago the car was parked in the same spot and some bozo whacked it... nice big dent in the hood, and again they just drove off and left me with a no longer pristine car) Last edited by Warthog; 27-04-10 at 12:15 PM. Gutted
![]() I don't know how mechanically keen you are but it may be a simple fix. Take the wheel off and look around, it may have just popped the driveshaft out or cv joint out, or be as simple as a bent arm thing (technical I know) all of which are a few quid an hours work from a motofactors to fix. I guess if it's a relatively new car you want to know it's perfect

Bumper hasn't protected it though, yeah. *growls*
It might be simple to fix mechanically but I still have a huge mark (cosmetic) on the front which I can't fix... a weird part of me at the back of my mind wants a write-off so I can just buy a crappy Volvo again and not care what happens to it. |

That is so rude, bad drivers are a real pain and cause untold amounts of damage. Is it worth reporting it to the Police? It happened to our car last year, but luckily an elderly neighbour saw it happen and the Police took her description and caught the swine who did it.
Leaving the scene of an accident is illegal apparently! We got £300 to pay for the damage. |

Yeah during the snow we were on holiday.
Got back to find someone had plowed in the side of the missus car and caved the passenger side in, not a small smack, no note nothing just buggered off. Wrote the car off (CatC) ![]() |

i'm with G, the damage may not be as bad as you think, the steering arm/cv joint etc..... in this area of the car, some of the cheaper/easier to replace parts are more liable to break in a knock, so to reduce major damage to a hub/break disc/caliper/suspension
a mate at work once had the same thing, except he parked with his wheels pointing out and someone must have knocked it whilst parked up. it was under £100 fix taking to a main dealer! i wouldnt panic just yet! |

@G and Malks: Yeah, I can see where you're coming from, it might just be a matter of replacing a few bits and having it realigned, but there's still the really ugly scuff mark to be concerned with, and that will cost a fair few to have put right as well.
Whether all this will cost more or less than my insurance excess (£400) is another thing. |
