Default Petty Police Fines

The boys in blue are having a purge by fining motorcyclist for stopping in the green bicycle boxes at traffic lights. This seems to be in central London, as my colleague this morning to his amazement received the same fixed penalty.

Also, Addison Lee had 14 of their couriers fined with 3 points and a fixed penalty last week.

Is this true, and could he challenge this penalty?

Nope, he is breaking the law. Its not petty, pedantic maybe but not petty. Damio brought this up a while ago. Going past the 1st stop line is technically jumping the lights therefore could be a TS10, 3 points and £60. A TS10 will jump your insurance up as well, as its classed in the 'Dangerous' catagory.

What a set of c***s.

Tell you what, sit on the inside instead so the cyclists can't get through, that would work better. Really...

Oh and sit on the outside of the car if not so all the bikes stack up and you've got the "into the first corner on race day" every time lights change... Yeah... Crackin idea lads...

Thanks for the warning, I shall take care on my commute into the smoke!

Mind you, I rarely see a bicycle in that area - they've usually all jumped the lights at the first opportunity anyway!

Thanks for the update Ian, never knew this to be the case but will pass on the upsetting news to my colleague as well.

Although, has this be placed into the highway code now then?

Always been there I think, got to stop at the line, the target box in front is just an addition for the lycraists. I could be wrong, have a gander.

Thing is, there's never any cyclists in them, especially in Central London where the cyclists always ignore red lights completely.

Not really the point, it gives us butt-hole batterers a bit of a start, not that I benefit in the hinterlands, mainly lets the council say they're all green and cyclist-friendly. If anyone follows M13 on Youtube they have a similar arrangement for go-peds in Taiwan. I doubt it'd hurt for motorbikes to use them as well, but the rules are there, and clear. Break them at your peril,in the most spy-camera sodden place in the world.

Wish they would have done this when I used to commute to work in Wigan - Damn cars were always running into the cycling box. PITA when you filter forward and find some huge SUV in the way.

They focussing on mortorbikes in london or doing everybody?
