Default SV650S K2 Odometer - KM, change to Miles?

Hi there,

I have an 02 SV650s.The speedmoter is as it should be.the Mph readings are on the outside with the kph inside,so it is a UK Spec.

Myself and my mates were all out today, however my trip odometer seems to be reading in kph?I have checked several discussions online, but they all seem to refer to the dash haveing two buttons, where you hold one then press the other etc.

My bike is the K2 model.I only have one button on the dash.I simply want my trip counter to register in miles other than kilometres.

I'm sure its only a matter of holding the button for so many seconds and flicking the key maybe....but its only easy if you know how!

Can anybody help me out?

Thanks

Some people change speedos over just by fitting the other overlay, not sure about how to change reading over.

Hi Yorkie_chris,

Thanks for replying..
Not sure what you mean about the overlay lad?

I tested it again there now..
I was thinking that maybe the main milage on the odo was in miles, and maybe trip A and trip B were displaying kilometres.
The main mileage is also in kilometres because I reset the trip to 0 and then took note of the milage. Both of them had went up by 18, where I know the miles I had covered is about 12 miles.

I only purchased the bike 2 months ago believing that the bike had 15000 miles because thats what the owner told me.turns out it has far less now then..result!just need to figure out how to convert it to miles cos I informed the dva when i registered the bike.

AFAIK you can't switch between Kilometres & Miles on the curvy - you maybe can on the pointy. As YC suggested it sounds like you have KPH clocks with an MPH overlay (i.e. the face of the speedo clock has been changed). This would correct your speedo but obviously has no effect on the odometer.

Sounds like it!

I would personally get the serial no's checked by a suzuki main dealer as they'll tell you where the bike was imported from

Yeah I would say so. Has your bike still got any idiot stickers? Mine were all in French which was a bit of a giveaway.

It's nothing to worry about. Loads of these bikes were brought in as parallel imports from the EU and are same spec as UK.

Have the headlights been swapped over? UK lights will both come on with dipped lights. On EU lights only the left hand headlight comes on when dipped - and it's a projector type light.

If you've got the European lights it should be a MOT failure. If you've got UK lights then happy days.

If you want the odometer to read right your only option is to get used clocks off ebay.

EDIT: PS if you do have Euro lights a bit of sticky tape on the headlight is all you need to get through the MOT. Cover up the part where the beam kicks up to the right and you're sorted.

Hi there lads,

Thanks for all your advice so far..

Both headlights come on when dipped, and all the serial information is in english.

If I did put in a second hand odo from ebay, how do i get the correct mileage to appear? What i mean is,if the clock currently reads 16k now, will it go back to 00000 if a new odo is fitted?

These questions probably seem stupid to you lads, but this is all new to me.

Thanks

If you fit used clocks you will inherit the mileage of the donor bike and won't be able to change it. Make a note on the V5 of the respective mileages so you're not misleading a future buyer about the correct mileage.

Changing the clocks ain't cheap though.
