Default test ride triumph sprint RS

Hi All

Been wanting a go on a sprint RS for a while and noticed one local dealer

Its a 2000 model in orange and had done 18 k

In v good condition and up for 2500 ( which seemed about 500 heavy to me ?)

Test ride thoughts

Really comfy , engine powerfull but nicely relaxed would make a great mile muncher , front brakes excellent , rear brake non existant , heavy clutch action , great sounding bike and did not have race can on

Steering slower than the sv however suspension a lot more "plush" and controlled

The only down size was the bike did not like a constant throttle esp round 4-5k , not sure if this a problem with this model ?

Mentioned to dealer who said it was the stepper motor .?

Apart from the constant throttle issue was really impressed

Treated the sv to an oil & filter change when I got back so she did not get jealous

However think it's on borrowed time as had for 4 years and looking for something with longer legs and more comfy

Cheers Steveg

Martianskippy just bought one on a recommendation from Rictus. I'm sure you could give either a nudge for more info.

If it was a 2000 bike, what engine did it have Steve? The RS had two. The 1st 'edition' had about 100 bhp and the 2nd around 110 I believe. The earlier engine had sandcast like casings IIRC, whereas the later were black casings with a multitude of bolts, again IIRC.

I found my 1st edition engined RS to be quite slow and not what I expected at all. Never rode the later one, so can't comment.

Hi Pete
It was a 2000 model therefore the 100 bhp , going to try for a 110 bhp later model
Seemed alot more powerfull than my sv and esp a lot more comfortable
Cheers Steve

You got it right first time Stu - my bike is the Sprint RS. It differs a bit from the ST version: mainly by the half fairing, but also the suspension set-up (RS is supposed to be a bit sharper), lower clip-ons and, on some bikes, the swing arm (single sided on the ST and double sided on most RSes apart from the 2004 model methinks) . I'd definitely recommend the later-engined version as they have made quite a few improvements to it (no to mention the extra power ).
