Default Yoshimura rs3 race can on a gsxr750 srad - <101db?

Booked on bike magazine road bike only trackday at cadwell on 17th august - noise limit is 101db.

Will my yoshi rs3 race can (no baffles and no option to fit one) pass noise testing?

Picked up a cheap noise meter from ebay for £15 but turning it on and holding it in my hand registers around 60db, shouting at it is around 100db and holding 50cm from can at 45 degree is around 120 db. There's different types of noise meters and I get the impression I've got the wrong one

Does it have an 'A' weighted response curve? If so it should be correct - but of course the accuracy of a £15 instrument may not be great.

well this is the thing, it's maplins noise meter and I had a look through the book but couldn't see anything about it being type 'a' or 'b' as explained to me by a guy who does noise testing for bike drag racing at elvington in york...

Away from home til sunday so will have a look when i get back

If you have the "mini" sound level meter from Maplin, then it's C weighting only I think.

that's probably the one - what's the difference between the weightings?

Hey Mr the 6th!! If you go into the track days bit of this forum there is a similar thread about noise levels, I've just posted a explanation of all the weightings and some other info if you wanna check that out. Anything else you need to know let me know n I'll try answer it.

Wikipedia has a chart showing the response of the various SPL weightings. As Mr Speirs says, low frequencies are severely attenuated by an A weighted filter compared to C weighting.

paul a yoshi race can will be about 120 to 130 db.

You could alway go speak to a acoustics engineer and see if they could test it, be most accurate test possible

Just done a small search...the cheap maplins SPL meter is C weighted.

You can safely assume that that meter will be over reading by a margin but probably not by the 20db you are hoping, if it were a V-Twin you might get close but an IL4 might be pushing it.
