Need a bit of advice please - my current faired curvy is all well and good but the front fairings have a few scratches and dents, and I really like how the curvy looks without the front fairings on, but retaining the clip-ons. Gives kind of a cafe-racer look I think.
So, I'm intending to get these fairings off and change it to a naked, the problem is though, that I don't know what parts I'm going to need. I'd normally be happy to take it to bits, have a look and order what I think is needed, but since I'm hoping to sell the car soon, the SV will be my only form of transport, so I'll need to get it done over a weekend. My guess would be, - New headlight - New clocks - New headlight brackets - New mirrors - New indicator brackets (?) - possibly amend the wiring If anyone could give me a nod in the right direction it'd be appreciated. I've done a search of the forums, and found some nice pics of similar stuff, but not really a definitive list. ![]() Oh, and this is going to be the start of project ''Rat-hack-fighter-cafe-racer-SV'' which I intend to start fairly soon...photos to follow ![]() |

Wiring is a PITA. Lot of loom to hide.
Connectors are also different between faired and naked clocks.

That's exactly what happened with mine - I swapped with Liam Simpson, see the stripped and polished megathread. We swapped the loom, not a difficult task when you've got the plastics off, can't quite remember exactly what didn't reach though. Might have been the headlight and clocks, most probably was.
As you're keeping the clip-ons you'll be ok without changing the cables, but IIRC we had to change clutch, choke and both throttle cables too. Second hand naked clocks don't come cheap, when you can find them. We also changed the radiator... Again, can't quite remember why. |

![]() ![]() ![]() I used naked lamp brakets, indicators with an aftermarket llight. That's early Bandit 600 clocks on there, they all work after a bit of nonsense... It's running a Bandit speedo drive in place of the electric one. Aagin it all works fine. I added naked radiator end plates later as they tidy it up. If you want any more info I'll try to help. |

That's what I'm worried about - I wouldn't know where to start with wiring stuff. The thing with mechanical parts is that one thing tends to relate to another in a fairly obvious way, wiring just looks like a mess which doesnt mean very much!!
I was wondering about bandit clocks actually - they do look good, and no doubt will be more readily available than the naked SV ones!! |

how easy was it to fit the bandit speedo drive to the sv front wheel? i've naked mine a while ago, it was easy, but i used an after market headlight, brackets, indicators etc, fitted a bar end mirror, and kept the clip ons.
I was able to hide most of the loom behind the frame under the tank etc, but at the mo i've been using a crap little aftermarket speedo but like the look of the bandit clocks, plus like yousay little easier (and cheaper) to get hold of then curvy clocks |

![]() Your list is spot on. You can usually mount indicators onto the headlight bracket, but you'll need new indicators aswell - the standard ones won't be any good. As you're retaining your clip-ons you don't need to worry about cables etc. If you're looking at replacing with standard SV Naked clocks and light then it's worth replacing the loom for the naked version. I got a naked loom but, as I'm going to use aftermarket clocks and lights, there was no real benefit so I stuck the original loom back in. Your choice is then to hide the surplus wiring around the airbox or cut up the front of the loom and use new connectors. I'll be cutting it up but I've got another bike on the road. ![]() With regard to mirrors, most people go for bar end style as there isn't normally room on the bars to mount new brackets. Big Daft Lad has solved this though. What did you do BDL? Use the lever brackets off a naked? Last edited by TamSV; 14-07-10 at 04:12 PM. |

It's just the back part of the clamps you need IIRC.

the clutch lever has no back clamp it's one piece, you just need the clutch lever bracket from the naked bike
for the brake, just the back strap with the 10mm mirror mount is pennies from suzuki |
