Hi Folks
recently the sv has been having backfires when i go over reasonably big bumps in the road. it seems to only happen when the revs are up (6k and over). I've gone over the bumps in a higher gear at lower revs and no backfire occurs. Connections to the battery and plugs seem nice and tight and I have no idea what else could be causing the problem. anyone got any suggestions? scaring the tourists in central london with backfires is all good fun but I would prefer not to do it. |

Bypass the sidestand switch is a good start

Trouble with bypassing the sidestand switch is if you forget, the stand won't fold when you turn left. Forget it just once and you could well be dead. Not good outcome.
Things to look for are inadequate lubrication of sidestand so it doesn't return enough or, on older bikes, weakened springs, such as on mine. |

Just to make sure it's that, I'd be tempted to tie the sidestand up then go for a bumpy ride.

take a good look at the connections in and around the bike on/off switchgear, particularly where the switchgear connects to the wiring loom just behind the headstock (you'll likely need to remove the airbox or pull the radiator forwards to get to this)
