Going from a sv650 to a sports 600 would be like WTF...hopping from a SS600 to a r1 would be like woaah - I imagine going from a sv650 to a R1 would be like
![]() However if you want want, and trust yourself - go for it. 's your money ![]() Oh and take it as a rhetorical question/comment, but going from a restricted sv to highpowered bike seems a bit illogical.

i do trust myself, but at the sametime i do have the odd moment.
i also think that i would probably prefer a bike i could rag a bit, such as the gixxer as opposed to the what people keep telling me about the R1, that you dont really feel like your making it work it just goes and keeps on going. Scoobs has got one iirc, wonder what he will have to say. |

I think testrides are you best bet, different bikes suit different people.

I went from an SV650 to a GSXR-750, ok not the same power output I know but...
If you have self restraint / self control and are prepared to spend time getting used to the bike, then you'll be fine. If you're going to get on it and rag the nuts out of it straight away, well you'll be needing several changes of underpants. Thing is these things are not unrideable, you dont have to opent he throttle all the way to the stop. Just take your time work up to it and you'll be fine. What'll catch you out, will be you are approaching corners / hazards much faster than you'll be used to. I found myself approaching corners 20 - 30mph faster than I was used to. Of course the handling and brakes do help out with this. Just dont get carried away. Even getting the 750 isnt "playing it safe" theres still the opportunity to get caught out with that to. How much time, how many miles have you done on the SV, you might find a SS600 a better stepping stone...

Check you can afford the jump in insurance too.As for your question only you know the answer. The R1 will be easy to ride but will be completely OTT on the road if you want to use the performance.Do you have the self discipline to keep the throttle shut?

Do whatever you like, throttle goes both ways.
Im sure insurance will make the right decision for you tbh.

i agree even if you have a tame wrist one slight mistake could mean totaled bike if you get off lightly with the amount of power the r1 has, personally derestrict the sv for at least a few months before jumping up anything gets you used to the slight power increase them the increase to a gsxr 600/750 before a r1.
