Default Grand Designs

Anybody catch the new series that just started?

Thought I'd name drop as Lincoln's a top bloke who we've done a lot of work for, supposedly came over very well on screen too, not seen it yet myself but when you meet him it's obvious he's got a real passion for architecture

Is available on 4oD

No it was great.... lovely house they had as well, I liked how the glass wall could be moved completely away and it made the kitchen and sitting area look just under cover. Like how they also used a number of different rendoring techniqes to different parts of the building. It the first epsiode I have seen where they kept part of an original building rather than just starting a fresh.

I like the program and thought the interior of their house was pretty smart. Totally unconvinced by the 'cow shed' cladding on the tower though, it looks awful. Lincoln did come over well and seemed to have a good relationship with Kevin McCloud based on a mutual respect?

thats not as much fun, I love KMc for his dry patronising witt when you watch his interteraction with people you can see him thinking "you've not got a clue really, do you!" I find that often more entertaining than the build.

KMc is a very entertaining presenter, in a slightly contrived way (but it's a TV prog so .....). A great series, truly interesting shows.

I have to say I find nearly all the "architect" designs (you know what I mean) are pretty uninspiring, another multi-box steel/glass/sliding/funny materials kind of idea. The one's I really hate are the upside down roof variety, there's a reason why most roofs are the way they are, doing one sloping inwards and a valley down the middle is just asking for trouble IMO.
"Oh let's collect all the water and snow on top of the house and see if we can stop it leaking in".
..and as for the half buried things with curved walls all over the place....

If you want everything curved, add a nought to the cost and double the time.

Traditional methods are often traditional for a reason (it works).

God I like bitching!

I like when he explains complicated building methods using simple little demonstrations

I liked that tree house, especially the bath and bedroom overlooking the trees. The burnt wood looked good but I kept thinking "oh you've missed a bit" where it hadn't been burnt. That would bug me living with that. I'd be out with the blow torch every weekend, touching up the missed bits. Until one day I took it too far and the whole house burnt down....
