I've developed a slight obsession with 749s and am looking at getting one, one thing that I've been trying to find out is can you get parts easily for them. I usually do all my own servicing and was looking at getting one that needs the 12k service for a bit of a saving. One slight issue is I'm struggling to find somewhere I can get parts, ebay has let me down once again
![]() Is this a "you can only get the parts from dealers" sort of bike? If not anyone got any idea on decent places to get parts? Cheers all, Peter |

Apart from the belts most service items are cheap (ish), although I don't know about air filters.
You have to be careful as later 749Ss have a different collet arrangement which requires the heads removing to do the valve clearance. I believe. JHP, or Ducati Coventry as they are now known, are an excellent source of parts, both service and bling. |

Try somewhere like Snells Ducati. TBH i sell alot of parts on ebay and through the shop and they sell at pretty much the same price. Quite a few dealers now will do more of a deal than you can sometimes find on ebay due to ebays stupidly high fee's.
Has the bike been stood for a while?. If so then the belts may need doing as sitting them in one spot can cause a stress point. Neglect belts and you wont be saving any money. |

There is one (mine my old one) at world of bikes at Corby with 9400 miles on it and had the belts done in april so you wouldn't have to touch them til april 2012. The service at 12,000 miles would be due in 2500miles but TBH i was just going to do that myself if I was keeping it and waiting til the belt needed done until it went back for a full proper service. Great bikes but try and get one with a Termi, the S has slightly better suspension components. They tend to stall at lights but can be solved apparently, although after mine went into service is actually got worse. Apparently it's the valve timing which means the engine doesn't get enough air at tick over.

I was looking at getting an S or a 04+ std, as i think they are basically the same thing, +1 on the termignoni. Are the std ones really that much worse as they are noticeably cheaper.... I've read a bit about the stall problem, sounds like it might be manageable though... Anyway, looks like i might have to up my budget a little. |

Belts are about £100 for both of them. Don't know about shims.
The S is the S the Std is Std. Even laters ones. S has the hard coated fork sliders the std doesn't, S also has slightly more BHP. No the standard ones aren't much worse just the S's are nice. Watch out for people who put a carbon shroud over their standard can and then put a termi sticker on it. Proper termi: http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classifi...46ds?logcode=p Standard with shroud and sticker: http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classifi...46ds?logcode=p P.S. the first one used to be mine ![]()

Probably a reason for that
![]() I know I thought he only wanted to make £500 on it!! Funny cos that price is only £100 less than what I paid for it 18 months and 6000 miles ago.
