Default 'kin taxman

Went round to mum's bungalow yesterday to make sure everything was ok, and there on the mat was a letter from the taxman (or woman).

"Dear mrs xxxxxxxx, please be advised we still haven't received your tax return for this year..." And it then went on to warn of dire doings if this error wasn't corrected.

The reply which I sent, "Dear Mr Taxman, or woman, many thanks for writing to let me know I have been remiss in not returning form a xxxxx. However, I did ring you and write to you in June '09, followed up with Solicitor's letters in Jan & April '10 to advise you I'm DEAD. I too find the concept of death a little hard to grasp, e.g. I've neither bathed, eaten or changed my clothes for 16 months yet it doesn't seem to bother me, or those around me. Could I also Advise you that I moved house to no1 Heaven Road, Pearly Gates.

Yours, Mrs xxxx

P.S. Would death explain why another Govt dept has not paid my pension for 16 months?

'kin idiots!

+1 what dp said. there is no excuse for such an error, they would be quick enough doing it to you.

When I worked for a company that sent out mailings we got fined silly amounts for mailing the deceased, I don't know if this was contractural or a legal thing but I'd certainly have a go at someone.
Isn't there some poor lass in the opposite situation at the moment that was just on the news trying hard to proove she ISN'T dead?

we had that with my mum but the stupid girl at the end of the phone insisted to my dad that she spoke to her the previous week. I had to take the phone and politely (not) explain that she could not have spoken to her and still insistent till i explained that she was dead last week and we just buried her today. Didn't even get an apology just hung up on!

Ask that nice Mr Harnett for an apology Bri

Its an automated letter, and no ones told the computer, about your mother passing away.

One of the pitfalls of reducing Gov department to the bare minimum and closing all the local offices and hoping call centres can deal with it

My Mum got a letter from them-that-be that they were concerned that she hadn't claimed child benefit since 1977. She's 81, bless her. I told her it was worth a try.
