Default Advice on Bike please

Hello.

Just put down £100 paypal deposit a bike and ran a HPI check , its a k5/05 plate SV650s fully faired and was going to cost just over 2000 I planing to travel down to Norwich on satruday to pick it up.
A forum member has been and gave the bike a quick once over and all seems ok,
I was going to test ride the bike before i go ahead with the sale.

anyway i posted up in the photos section as I was excited http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.php?t=158451
and a organ has pointed out via pm that the crash bungs are different,

Iv asked the fella if the bike had been down the road and he replied he had a very low speed drop where he locked the front up just out side his house as a car came round the corner to quick.
he said the panel was scratched and the gear selector was replaced.
He then said the panel was also replaced and repainted.

its put a downer on the sale for me, should I just ask for my deposit back and look else where as its a long distance to go to be disappointed and look for something closer to home ?

any advise is welcome.

He didnt tell you about the fact it had been down the road, till you asked the crash bung question. What else hasnt he told you about ?

Personally if it were me, I'd ask for my deposit back, and keep looking. But then I am very fussy. But I also believe in being honest about stuff like this.

That really wouldn't worry me.
Fair enough you've not got to check it yourself, but bikes do get dropped and it's rarely end of the world...
If the HPI is clear and the steering, handling etc etc. feels good then it wouldn't worry me.

Your money though!

ok first a deposit is a deposit so dont be surprised if he refuses to return it,
second i.d say go down but phone before saying that due to this new info and after a full look over yourself you may need to renegotiate the price if you fing anything else he has forgot to mention
ask for reciepts for work carried out to fix it
if its all good after say due to the new info you want 100 quid knocked off the price , to go towards new bungs
but you may find he offers you your money back from the call

Well I asked the guy for a refund. as Fizz said He didnt tell me about the drop, until I asked. so there may well be other things he not telling me. I just said sorry mate if you would of told me at the beginning we could of discussed it but its to far to travel to be disappointed and please could I have a refund on paypal.
I wished him good luck with the sale and if i was him i would tell people about the drop as small things like this put people off.
I also offered him a copy of the HPI check I paid for and he had just gave me a full refund.

If you didn't ask the "RIGHT" questions has he done anything wrong? If you're that concerned either walk away or try to get all or at least part of the deposit back. You may make a saving on your transport cost.

Personnally I'd never travel more than 100 miles to see a bike unless it was a bargain. There's plenty of SV's about. So you could hold tight and just keep an eye on the ads and something will turn up sooner or later. This time of year bike prices drop. Ebay is a great place to find a bargain bike, they sell under market value IMO. Look for those that don't sell and make silly offers, you never know your luck if you find a desperate seller.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2005-SUZUKI-SV...item2a0ad97b46 doubt this one will sell and it's near you.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2004-SUZUKI-SV...item43a1ad8e21 not too far either.

This one did not sell http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2007-SUZUKI-SV...item19bfb99cbd call up the numbers on the ad, have a look and perhaps make a silly offer.

The truth is, SV's are bikes that are popular with the inexperienced and woman....so many will have been dropped at sometime in their life but they do survive well.
